Well, I really wanted to enjoy this book. I absolutely adored Ishiguro's _The Remains of the Day_, but I had mixed feelings about _Never Let Me Go_. I had hoped that I would also love _The Unconsoled_, but I found myself reading to finish, rather than enjoy the story. In part, I feel that the high level of anxiety and desperation I felt was intended through the narrative and the desired effect. In fact, I think, in a way, that was the pure genius of the writing, and it's impact on me proves it. I just didn't enjoy it and was relieved when it was over.

A very enjoyable Jody Piccoult read. I think it lost a little bit of steam at the end, but overall it was terrific. Definitely couldn't put it down.

There was quite a bit of melodrama in this book. I remember enjoying these number puzzle/cryptography capers years ago, but somewhere along the way this changed. It was nice to revisit the older technology stuff (even if it was not always accurate).

Somewhat disappointing as I'm lowering my rating on rereading – far more disjointed than Isabel Allende's newer novels and although interesting characters there are too many subplots and not enough character development. Still, I like Allende's style and look forward to reading Island Beneath the Sea: A Novel.
