This was a popwerful CANNOT PUT IT DOWN book. OMG! So different from Ship of Gold on the Deep Blue Sea but I love the way that this author tells a story.

Admittedly this was a page turner and the story is interesting but the writing itself, the language, was painful.

This was the first Jodi Picoult book I read and I think it was a great choice!! Just a warning though if you do not like sad books I don't recomend this book. I wouldn't say I loved this book but if you read the end you would know why but still five out of five!!!

Another good book. Boy have I been lucky so far this month. This is the story of a Korean picture bride who comes to Hawaii thinking the streets are made of gold, and how she lives her life once she learns that it's not true. I picked the book up because it's the same author as Molokai, which I absolutely loved. This book was very good, and very enjoyable, but didn't have that same wow factor. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the stories, the way she became hawaiian. It was all very good. Just not quite great, though I can't explain what kept it out of 5 star category. I guess if nothing else, Molokai was an outstanding first book, and a hard one to follow up with anything. I would recommend this book as an enjoyable read, an interesting story, and an opportunity to learn about the patchwork quilt that was and is Hawaii. I'll definitely read it again.

When it come to straight forward beautiful not digitally messed with pictures of people, Linda McCartney's one of the best. It sounds really simple, but trust me, it's not. And this book has a lot of classic shots because she was photographing musicians in the 60's- people like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, a lot of people no longer here. Lots of good stuff in this book. I think as a young photographer McCartney influenced what I consider to be a beautiful photograph, which in today's world of photography can be a million different things. But she was still capturing moments and people in a way that takes talent- not just taking shots and calling it documentary photography. She was still making art- her photos express something, an emotion or idea, which is completely possible with film and light and a camera- you don't need to mess with it 10 times in photoshop. McCartney got me started on that road.

This book was insane...much like the main character. The writing was primitive...derivitive...I'm not really sure how to apty describe it. The book, itself, was so short...the chapters/parts were strangely sectioned, and at one point, you don't even know that the voice of the narrator has changed because there is just a * in between paragraphs. I think this was bare bones and could have been fleshed out much more thoroughly and made a "real" novel. It was interesting, but I don't think her descent into madness was adequately fleshed out. And, I think his character could also have been much more fleshed out to give him more depth. As a prequel, I think this could have been much better and stood alone as a novel...

love the series. I listed to this on audio books and the audio reader has a great voice and ranges to represent the characters!
