Much more interesting than I thought it would be. Starts off a bit slow but continues to keep your interest. Light reading and great for a break between heavy reading.

Rather enjoyed this read. As, I do not know the games or anything about the book when I signed up for it I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the action and the development of the story. I do have to admit as quick of a read as it was it did take me some time to pull all pieces together. Glad I read this book and was able to see an interesting twist on things. I enjoyed the way the author put the different stories in the book and how they interacted. The way that it started out with the young kid, moved onto a scientist, and then moved onto the business aspect of story. I enjoyed the twist on the legend. There were a couple of disturbing pieces that really caught me by surprise. Not bad, but just a shock to the system while I was reading them.

This was yet another book that took FOREVER to get into but then it got a bit better the last 50-75 pages. I liked the overall theme in a sense, and was surprised at the ending, but overall, I had a hard time following who was telling the story since it rotated perspectives so much. Since I finished it a couple of days ago, it must not have been that memorable since I can’t remember any highlights. I did like having the story in Salem, where I have visited and the whole ‘witch’ persona is fun and real and brought back some fun memories of when I had visited there.

A great read for me because I read My Heart is Africa while travelling on a bus from Nairobi to Kampala in East Africa. As I'm travelling over land, Griffin is depicting his flight from Toronto to Nairobi in a single engine cesna. Pretty amazing, just for the story!

Even when all bets are off you still can turn it around. Execution is key. Corporate culture is of the utmost importance. Customer focus. Knowing when to cut your losses with a product line, plan etc. * communication, “Say what you do, do what you say” could be one of his mottos, at all levels: cross-border, cross-departements, bottom-up, top-down, internal-external; * a constant competitive analysis, or benchmarking, with speeches I find hilarious, but true, referring to competitors stealing IBMers the money they saved for their children´s College studies. As an example, the way IBM could generate enough free cash-flows (the only real performance indicator in the corporate world according to Gerstner) was basically to optimize its cost structure against the competition´s cost structure; * transferring R&D patents into disruptive market innovations that serve customer´s needs; * avoiding corporate inertia, fancy titles, and “sit-and-watch” jobs; a good strategy can´t work without a perfect execution. * keeping IBM in one piece, to benefit from the economies of scale implied by its size; * lowering the size of blockbuster servers to increase short term market share & cash flows to invest better in the future; * realizing that OS2, though a better operating system than MS Windows 3.1, had lost the operating systems battle against Microsoft´s marketing power. I used to be a fanatic of OS2, Mac OS and Jean-Louis Gassée´s BeOS a long time ago – and indeed, these were better products than Windows. But in the end, what matters is not technology, it´s customer adoption…I learnt the lesson too and switched to Windows when its 1995 millesium was released;

Daniel Clowes may be the best fiction graphic novelist there is. With every book, you can see his keen attention to the art, the craft of the narrative, the psychology of the characters, and his knowledge of the genre. Additionally, you never expect the same-old, same-old from Clowes, every book experiments with something different, and the payoff of the risks is large. Wilson is written in a series of graphic narrative vignettes that build the neurotic life of the character. He uses different artistic styles--from the exaggerated cartoonish, to detailed realism, to the use of color themes of entire pages that create a mood. The humor and the tragedy are handled masterfully. I have yet to be anything less than in awe when I read a Clowes book.

Ms. George is such a fine writer. Grim, yes; dark, yes; but she has an understated insight into the nuances of her characters that keeps me reading. This is also a long book, but worthy for those who admire great story tellling and intricate plotting.
