The Worldwar/Colonization series continues to be super awesome. You'd think the setting would run out of relevant story, but it's just heating up in Down to Earth! The characters from Second Contact (I don't think there were any new ones) continue to be compelling and exciting. I continue to enjoy the series greatly, although I am running out of new things to say about it in review! Read my full review at my book review blog.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is easier to believe how such a young man could have become President when one sees how incredibly insightful and introspective he already was when he wrote this book, at age 33. His life has been fascinating and I highly recommend this book. It is split roughly in thirds, with the first section talking about his childhood in Indonesia and Hawaii and his mother's side of the family, the middle third about his years as a community organizer in Chicago, right out of college (this section gave me a new understanding of race relations in the US that I really appreciated), and the last third telling of his first trip to Kenya to meet his relatives there and search for answers about his by-then-dead father. A very worthwhile read that has just enough depth to leave you wanting more. I was a bit thrown off by the fact that the narrative jumps around in a way that is hard to keep up with, especially if you're not reading the book in one sitting, but occasionally, a gorgeous passage will startle the reader, making up for the slight confusion. Also, a family tree would have been incredibly helpful, as keeping the generations and numbers of wives straight was a bit tough for me. Mostly, I am just beyond thrilled that someone who has dealt with so many issues of identity and deeply understands so many diverse groups of people through his own experience is President. His emotional intelligence is amazing.

This book helped me understand everybody I've ever known. Seriously. Now that I have kids, I see that everything Dr. Leman says is true, true, true.

I like the mix of sketches and water colors. It brings me back to those brief days in Paris. It makes me happy to flip through this book. I also like how the paper feels like thick watercolor paper so you feel as if you are flipping through someone's sketchbook. The penmanship is also beautiful, better than anything I could manage :p

The affirmations in this book were good, but the book got slightly repetitive. The basic message is that you are not responsible for the person's anger and should not claim to take ownership of it. It had basic good skills on how to deal with verbal abuse whether in a relationship, dealing with children, friends, or co-workers.

I love a good distopia book! Bradbury is a great writer, but personally, I think there IS such a thing as TOO many metaphores and similes......Bradbury was walkin' the line;)

I actually liked this follow-up more than I liked Frey's first book, A Million Little Pieces. Complain all you want about how this is a "fabricated" memoir; it's still an amazing book. Frey made me cry with this look at his friendship with Leonard. Wonderful book.

Young art scholar Adam Strickland is sent to Italy by his thesis adviser to study a Renaissance garden built by a Florentine banker in memory of his wife, who died in 1548 under mysterious circumstances. The garden, filled with statues, a temple and grotto, is indeed interesting as art. But it becomes even more interesting when Adam hits upon the key to deciphering it: Dante’s “The Divine Comedy” – the nine-tiered garden is modeled on the nine circles of hell. Following the clues, he suspects that the banker, Federico Docci, may have killed his own wife, Flora, for having an affair. But this is not the core mystery. At the Villa Docci estate, Adam begins to suspect that one of Signora Docci’s sons may have murdered his brother. Although the family has always said that Emilio Docci was killed by German occupiers at the end of World War II, the stories don’t add up – and the third floor of the house, where Emilio was killed, has been locked since the murder. Eventually, Adam unravels this mystery, as well. This is a slow-paced book that really places you in Italy, with wonderful characters.

Bu kitap hakkında sevmediğim tek şey, metrodaki kitaba çok girerken ve yanlış ilçede olduğumu fark ettiğimde telefonum olmadan koşarken cep telefonumu kaybetmem.
