I don't think that this book is necessarily a fix-all or the miracle cure to relationship issues (that the author professes it to be), but I do think it brings up some very good points that can be extremely helpful with any relationship. I don't know that I agree that everyone has just one primary love language, but I do believe that people express and receive love differently, and it is so important to be aware of that and make an effort to speak the "love languages" of the people in your life. This book helped me become more aware of things in my relationship with my husband and even my relationship with my four year old daughter. While it may not be a fix-all, it is definitely worth a read.

Gene's story presents a compelling parallel to the harsh realities of war, though it is set entirely apart from the war. The motivation that leads Gene to commit an act that culminates in a final, heart-wrenching loss illuminates the misunderstanding and misplaced hatred that leads men to war. The book affected me more than I expected. Its honesty made me uncomfortable, yet compelled me to read more. The tears came quick at the end and I felt for these characters more than I realized before that moment.
