I wanted to read this book because I used to work for an international NGO and I saw this book featured on The Daily Show. It covered a lot of ground I already knew about: NGOs are dependent on good marketing and being in the right place at the right time... it's a business and the competition is huge. I knew that materials designated for aid were often stolen by corrupt governments and that aid workers could instill great damage to individual psyches while being touted by media as being compassionate (the story she tells of the US business who essentially stole children and brought them back the the US to be adopted will make your blood boil). The reason that I couldn't give this book a higher rating is because it didn't go far enough. Maybe it was intended to be a snapshot in time (most of the book focused on Rwanda and how the West got it wrong) but jumping from Rwanda to Sierra Leone to Darfur to Afghanistan was confusing. You also have to be very patient with the acronyms - they are everywhere. Glancing over the history in each region and calling out some aid organizations by name and not others left me very unsettled. Specificity goes a long way. Worth reading but in small doses.

It was a cute romantic teen book. Although I enjoyed the idea, its execution was a little illusive, it could've had a much better ending and the characters could've been much more in-depth.

** spoiler alert ** I don't really know what to say about this book or what was my opinion of it..well first of all the whole book was spoiled for me even though i didn't even watch the movie secondly there was so much description too much description if i may add , and because i happen to have a not so great knowledge of English , well reading this book has proved itself to be a bit boring and difficult for me. Besides that , there was the constant wait for something to happen , i understood clearly that Grenouille has an extraordinary sense of smell , an olfactory miracle or whatever , what was the delay for? , i wanted a whole another meaning for the killings and expected something way better then the orgy spectacle that came of it in which people had lost them selves to there deepest fantasies and have participated in the most horrid of performances , and of course i expected the end to be more then just being devoured by 30 people , I admit it was a little bit creative , of course it didn't occur to me in my wildest guesses , and by all means he actually deserved it . But still it is somehow not satisfactory at all, Also we didn't get so much glimpses into the murderer's twisted mind , i wanted to see his reaction upon the first kill , i wanted to hear his inner thoughts while performing the very first act of extracting the smell out of the body of his victim , maybe i even wanted some human thoughts giving from that mind of his . I've always found the killer's mind fascinating maybe out of my love for being a psychiatric , and maybe because there was always a good explanation from where all the sick mentality has come from , and this killer lacked of it in way that made him more inhuman then fatal , so it sort of didn't suit me at all . Also it is kind of a pity for this great idea to be wasted on this book , great things could be made from it . At the end i am actually really disappointed in this book , because i like this kind of books so it's shocking for me to dislike it so , i'll just give the movie a try , and maybe i'll like it better

It is hard to take seriously an author who lumps Paris Hilton, Madonna, George Clooney and Streisand with President Carter and Al Gore in her definition of a celebutard. I would totally agree with her on celebrity types often being airheads and not suitably informed to be our authorities on serious issues, but its very funny that she doesn't see Bill O'reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter (all who endorsed her book) or Rush as Clebutards. Celebutard definition (1) a famous person with a grandose notion of his own importance and contribution to the known universe (2) a human being of subpar intellect, oversized ego and colossal bank account, whose existence represents a drag on the food chain, waste of oxygen and severe annoyance (3) an egregious moron This is the first book I've ever given only one star. This is a really fast read, apparently written for the very subpar intellect of which she speaks!

This novel by Catherine Asaro is quite imaginative, and the fast-paced combat scenes are gripping. However, I do not care much for the first-person narrative style of storytelling. The story is told completely from the perspective of the protagonist, Sauscony Valdoria. Her tendency to indulge in mini-lectures, in her own thoughts, concerning how the technology around her works is an exercise in speaking directly to the reader. As such, it sort of breaks the "fourth wall" for me. Otherwise an enjoyable read. Teen plus, with some non-graphic sex, violence, and so forth.
