Another Kindle read. I absolutely loved this book. David Grann interweaves his own story of exploration to solve the mystery of the disappearance of Colonel Percy Fawcett, who was lost in the Amazon in the 1920s. Fawcett believed that there was a great civilization in the heart of the Amazon and risked everything to find it. He was a model for Indiana Jones and his reports were sources for The Lost World. Much of the joy in reading this lies in the unfolding of the two intertwined stories. A great book to put on your summer reading list -- if you can wait until then.

I read this in high school and thought I'd try it again. It is still a weird story. Very unusual form any sort of sympathetic standpoint. The characters are somewhat despicable, but I found myself tormented for them. An interesting story that I'll probably read again.
