I first saw the movie starring Robin Williams and then read the book. While the book is a bit more depressing, it is still well-written and quite interesting. I couldn't put this book down, and there aren't many books I can say that about. John Irving's writing...is something different, but you don't know it. It might be the characters, it might be their lives. Who knows?

This book was an easy read and its a great one if you just want to read something "fun". It's about a Korean-American girl who resolves a lot of issues and the mystery around her parents' murder and her family's secret.

If a sign of a good book is that I want to read it again, this one qualifies. It took me awhile to read it - I think sometimes I got lost in keeping track of all the characters and wondering how they would all tie together. The end left me wanting to read it again, though.

Saw the movie version first, then read the book. Was very accurate in following the book. There was situations in the book that i think should have been added to the movie that would have enhanced it. Otherwise, it was good to see that they actually followed most of the dialog from the book!

I guess you could say I'm currently reading this book. I got about half-way through it, and was intrigued by the concepts and points it was making. Then it went off on this tangent about plant aura's and seeing energy, and I began to feel like the author wrote it on acid. I may pick it up again, but for right now it just pooted my interest out.

A light, fun read. I still enjoy it--I've read it several times--though it's aimed at children. It's really funny and clever, and yet it still has time to be warm-hearted without being cheesy. Read it.

This story of a teenager with Tourette's and OCD is a powerful one, and a very quick read, but the narrative voice made me uncomfortable. Perhaps it's just James Patterson's style - I'm just not a fan of his work. It was also hard for me to separate the main character's feelings (who is the narrator) from his father's (who was a co-author with Patterson). I would have liked it better if Cory Fieldman himself had been an author. Lowell Handler's Twitch and Shout and Brad Cohen's Front of the Class both gave me more insight into TS/OCD than "Against Medical Adivce", and read less like action novels - though I realize some readers may prefer Patterson's style. "Twitch and Shout", especially, has wonderful, elegant prose and wicked humor. All of these books do publicize TS, though, and if James Patterson's name makes more people read this story, and be more comfortable around people with tics, then I'm happy he wrote it. I do wish some places to find further information on Tourette's had been included in the back of the book, as with Cohen and Handler's books. A link to the Tourette Syndrome Association would have been a lot more useful than the appendix that was included.

This is one of my favorite books of esoteric verse. I unconditionally recommend it to everyone.

I have no problem saying that I really loved this book. The romance and the passion was so strong. Mixed well with suspense and the realm of mysticism. All around the good vs. evil idea (what is really good and what is really evil).
