I have read this book so many times as a child and I still continue to pick it up as an adult. I don’t even know why this is my favourite book, granted the way RD writes excites and keeps any reader tide in (no matter how old they are), but with ET it is more than that. This is a story of hope, demonstrating that no matter how seemingly unachievable something can be, with ingenuity and endeavour anything is possible. I LOVE THIS BOOK, it makes me feel good time and time again.

I don't rate scriptures. I found that this time through I really appreciated the insights from Jesus the Christ. Still don't rate them

Forget the Hollywood adapatations. This is the tried and true original and is much more of a buddy novel than a love story. While it does follow the courtship of Mina and Joanathan, there is zero love between the count and Mina as portrayed in the 1990's film adaptation. If you are into hokey special effects and botched storylines, then by all means watch the movie. This on the other hand is a great book, and a very interesting story. Its layed out as several intertwined diaries, letters, and for those who really research what they are reading, you will find it an interesting lesson in geography.

Wow - a great first novel that tries something new. I thought that it might read like Zombie lit, but it's more like the gentler cop segments of The Wire.

A great sequel to Guns, Germs and Steel, by the same author.

I hate these characters so very much. The writing is great, and the narrator is amazing, but I can't even understand why there is a story in the first place. I just keep thinking, who cares? I am struggling through the end, and honestly don't know why I didn't just give it up much earlier.

I love monster stories but the monster herein was the only thing I loved about this book. I did not like the main character, Jack. I did not sympathize with him. I am sure the authors wanted the reader to pity or understand the main character but I quickly became sick of his whining and incessant thoughts about drinking. I found it hard to believe that Jack could still work in his condition. Further, when a young character was telling his story, he phrased everything in a way not meshing with someone who has suffered trauma. The phrase mostly human is memorable enough that I did not think it needed to be repeated as often as it was, besides the fact that a coroner would not state something like that without elaborating. I thought the story was bland and predictable, up until the very end but I did like the end. This is a very short read and a collaboration between 4 different and seperately successful writers. As I said before, I love monster tales but this one overall fell short.

THANKS KELSI FOR A GREAT RECOMMENDATION!!! LOVED IT!!! A story with enough twists, romance and a little suspense to be a page-turner...

In her forward, Jacobs writes "Readers unwilling or unable to breach a barrier that they imagine separates humankind and its works from the rest of nature will be unable to hear what this book is saying." This is, in my experience, profoundly true, and much of what passes for economic intelligence and reason is little more than ideology propped up by delimited reason and thinking. I was pleasantly surprised at how Jacobs' ideas confirmed my own observation of the paucity of true rationality and reason within 'official' economic ideology. A few have commented on how much they disliked the dialogue approach Jacobs has taken in this book, but I found, after my initial surprise, that allowing it to move is a stimulating and enjoyable way of exploring ideas. I think that this book is a very important critique of economic practices, thinking and ideology. I was tempted to write powerful, but as this was written more than 20 years ago, and just about every manner of economic fallacy Jacobs discusses have become even more pervasive is a true measure of how unreasonable are those who in high places practice economic arcana that are bankrupting societies and people while enriching corporations and their owners.

** spoiler alert ** I'm told that this will keep my cats from scratching my furniture... I don't need that, but I also am told that this book can teach my cat to sit and lay down.
