I absolutely loved Wings, and I was a little afraid of Spells when it first came out. I did not want to be disappointed. To a point I was. So many books have love triangles. It is getting old. She's a faerie who doesn't really want to be a faerie and wants to live in the human world instead of doing what she was born to do. Personally I feel sorry for Tam because she's dragging him along and causing issues for him. There are class ranks for the faeries and Laurel just cannot understand this. She is so focused on her human life that she doesn't give time to getting to know her faerie life. I'm very afraid for this next book, but I will try and read it.

This was fun. A collection of short stories (and one comic) written for kids that are advertised as not tedious. Some were better than others (Neil Gaiman was outstanding as always) but all were enjoyable. Plus, how could you resist that title?

I had to finish this entire book before I was willing to say that I liked it. It was yet another book I wish I had read at another time in my life -- a time when I wasn't so consumed with reading books that are primarily driven by plot. There is some really beautiful writing here as well as depths you could lose yourself in. Trouble is: I didn't have the time or the head for it. Perhaps I will pick it up again someday and give it the attention it deserves.

** spoiler alert ** cassie palmer-main character, pynthia,mircea calls her dulcea,mircea's wife in vampire standards mircea-master vampire, also in a relationship with cassie(cassies husband in vampire standards) john pritkin-person that makes cassies feelings about mircea confusing(cause cassie likes him and he she), also friend/sometimes enemy,a war mage marco-leader of cassie's bodyguards,master vampire jonas-pritkins boss billy-cassies ghost friend/also helper Francois-a fey,cassies friend fred-a bodyguard(he and cassie go through a funny scene in the book and he panicks xD) jack-a vamp pritkin has been training cassie so that she would know the stuff when the time comes that she needs it. cassie was posessed by something really strong later on, and it took 3 vamp guards, billy, and alot of help from pritkin to get whateever it was out of cassie. all pritkin knows is that the thing that posessed cassie wasnt a ghost or a demon, but something else that was allergic to iron. it also wasnt a fey or a were. so the question is..what was it? on the coronation day cassie will be presented as the seer of seers to the supernatural world. pritkin decides to go back to the faerie world and risk trying to get to one of his contacts there so that he can ask them about what the thing might be that posessed cassie. naill(Weird guy that pisses cassie off by saying shes ugly) wants to help cassie bring up her image so people will respect her more. cassie later on goes back in time with mircea: cassie and mircea went to a party and saw cassies beautiful mother.cassies feelings of anger and regret came back to her when she saw her mother.cassie believes that her mother left tony and didnt take cassie with her because cassies mother only cares about herself and cassies dad. cassie later sees a war mae that wants to kill her mother at the party, and he saw her too.thats when all hell went loose.there started to have gunshots and all and cassies moms enemy was running away(probaly trying to find cassies mother to kll).cassie and mircea run around and expericed alot of explosions and dark magic.was cassies mom doing that? later on in the end the mom ends up disappearing and mircea and cassie have to stay back in time so cassie could rest and shift them back to normal time.mircea and cassie have a first date together and other things.. later on jonas says that maybe ares, the god of wars, is after cassie for some reason and the only way to stop him is find the goddess. cassie is later on posessed again which makes mircea worried more and doubling more bodyguards everywhere and commands the guards and marco to keep cassie away from pritkin.but later on cassie ends u finding a way to escape with pritkin. later on pritkin and cassie have a talk about whats going on and cassie explains how shes been trapped her whole life and its time she got some respect from mircea and the senate people.and to prove that shes ganna start to not follow mirceas rules and act like shes a servant.they also talk about how mircea doesnt trust pritkin because he thinks that pritkin is the reason that cassie got posessed twice. later on when cassie and pritkin went to leave they came out to see all kinds of vamps that mircea hired to bring cassie back to the hotel where she will be locked in there with bodyguards watching over her.but then the circle comes and things get alittle more complicated. a creature that was only said in fairytales came out and started attacking everyone, looking for one person....cassie.cassie and fred drove the SUV and all and later on pritkin ends up saving and killing the creature(i think), but not b4 the dragon drew its spit on pritkin, which starts to kill him inside out. and then cassie has the idea to let him feed off of her which might help him survive.but b4 she got to do that rosier(pritkins demon dad) appears. rosiers dad end sup putting a spell on cassie that results in pritkin draining energy from cassie in a sexual way so he could live.later on pritkin opens up to cassie and tells her about ruth-the women that he was going to marry but killed her by draining her dry on accident- and turns out ruth was part demon also but barly.later on cassie finds out that marco is way older than mircea and she learns that he used to be in an army and was dieing when some people found him and took him to their vampire boss who turns out to like ex-army people so he turned marco into one. jonas thinks the thing that attacked cassie is half fey and half god.one of the sons of ares.and that the half fey/half god could transform/shift into dragons and other creatures/thingss. later on cassie finds out that the coronation date got moved up and noone told her about it.later on cassie went to where the coronation was suposely located at and jack was told to keep her out, but of course cassie didnt listen and made a deal to help jack on something if he lets her in.so he does and cassie goes into her coronation to see another girl in her place as "pynthia" and mircea acting like shes his lover.later on mircea catches cassie in the coronation and takes cassie outside.then he tells her that he had to hire a girl to fake being cassie so that just in case a demigod trys to find cassie it would go to the coronation to find the girl and think shes cassie instead of going after the real cassie herself. cassies powers then decide that cassie needs a trip back to the past and takes both her and mircea there.they then end up battling spaltois/demigods and ends up with cassie, the mage,mircea and cassies mother shifting from this place to that until everything stopped. mircea opens up to cassie and tells her about his father and what happened.his father owed his respect to this guy that helped him lead his way up to the throne.and he putted mircea to lead a army instead of himself.later on when a guy was released from prison he made up an army of his own and went after mirceas family.mircea was buried alive, mirceas moms throat was sliced open, and mirceas dad got killed.mirceas brothers were safe though because they were far far away from home. mircea tells cassie that he loves her. when cassie shifted her and mircea back to their hotel, she shifted wrong because the next thing she knew mircea wasnt there and she was alone with...niall. cassie finds out that niall is a spartoi and that cassies mom was the goddess of death.cassies mom was the goddess she was looking for the whole time.later on cassie ends up killing the spartoi(niall) and then pritkin suddenly appeared(at that part their at the coronation).pritkin then kisses cassie and transfers cassies powers that she gave to him back to her.....which means....that pritkin died and was sent back to the demon relm and forced to stay by his fathers side forever. EPILOGUE: cassie wakes up to her room. marco was there in her room with her when cassie woke up.marco then tells her what happened at the coronation. cassie showed up naked,rolled around in mud, dusted a dragon, and made out with a mage(pritkin)...marco also told her that the senates were impressed of what she did at the coronation so they signed the alliance.marco also tells her that the whole dragon thing doesnt connect with cassie, but with cassie's dad.turns out when cassie's dad died with cassie's mom, cassies mom powers went into cassies dads soul, and cassie's dads soul is still alive and on earth right now because tony trapped it in his paperweight.marco says they need to go find tony in faerie land or on earth and get cassie's dads soul b4 tony finds out what powers cassie's dads soul has.cassie thought back to when pritkin came to the coronation to save her, and the only way to save her was to give her his powers, which meant that he got sent back to his fathers side.cassie remembered when pritkin told cassie that he would rather die then get sent back to his fathers side(which is like slavery to pritkin), but yet he saved her.he gave her his powers to save her.cassie may not know about the demon relm and about demons and how to find a way to get pritkin loose from his fathers side, but she knows who to ask. #154

I loved this novel to put it simply. In the beginning it was easier to put down because I didn't know where the plot was heading. Then, I read chapter 2 and 3 and I was hooked. I read for hours and hours and I was really bummed when I had to put it down. I loved this book because of the way it all connects in the end in such an elegant way. The meaning that this particular novel has to the author also makes it special. I read this novel from cover to cover (so the acknowledgements and the author's notes) and you should too. The novel is much more significant when you read the extra few pages. This novel kept me enticed, angry, happy, and sad all at the same time. It takes place in the South in the 60's during the Civil Rights Movement. This novel is a comment on the connection mainly between black (or "colored" as the novel says) and white women. Or as the novel states, "We are just two people. Not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I'd thought"

I was really disappointed with this book. It lacked the plot and pace of her other novels and it seemed like the end had very little to do with the beginning in some ways. The seams just seemed to hang loosely together and it felt as if Fairstein hadn't the enthusiasm to pull them in any tighter. I normally like her books and keep them on my shelves, but this one instantly went into the Charity shop bag.

It is a beautiful scene of love, not to mention that Morrison is at the heights of her talents as she describes the journey these two characters take.
