Read as a galley. Took a while to finish but glad I did. Was worth the read. Would read more by this author.

Long and complex book, a little scary. I found myself worrying about the condition of my brain and how long into the future it would continue to function. I'm not sure all the details of this book made total sense. It also had a bit of an unrealistic, good guy doesn't die ending. Maybe that would have suited at another time, but I feel now that the ending was naive.

This is probably my favorite Star Wars book, though it's neck and neck with Heir to the Empire. What I love about this book is that it's more thought provoking and romantic. There is very little space war, blowing things up, etc. Instead the characters really develop, there are loves and romances, and a serious question about what "good" and "alive" really mean.

This was an incredibly well-written book. Quoting from the Afterword, "It will take [reading the book 3 times] before you can get past what she went through and come to see the perfection of her sentences." I would recommend reading the Afterword first (by Ann Patchett) to set up reading the book. Grealy's self-reflections were poignant and powerful. I'd highly recommend this to people who appreciate good writing, and not to those looking for a sob story.

Great book on how people create images of who they are, and how interpersonal communication is inherently dramatic in form.

Fourth in the historical, military, sci-fi series, Belisarius, the general fights a mountain campaign against the best the Malwas have---Rana Sanga, a Rajput king, and Lord Damodara. Brilliant as he is, even Belisairus discovers he has a lot to learn although he does ccreate a whole new fighting force simply through honor. Sneaky tactics and some scary losses will keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm just dying for the next in the series, Tide of Victory Unexpectedly funny, Belisarius is an intriguing mix of the past and the future with strongly-written characters ranging from truly good to truly evil with all the shades of gray in between. The histories raised tempt me to read more in-depth of the non-fiction of the Indian kingdoms as well as the Byzantine court of Theodora and Justinian.

This was really different from any of James Patterson's other books, and believe it, or not, became my favorite...INSTANTLY! I read it over and over again, and each time, I am still as emotional about it as the first time.
not my favorite, but still good. i think the elements of the bizzare are a little too much, even for me :) but a great book nonetheless!

I think, in terms of plot/worldbuilding advancement, I enjoyed this psy/changeling instalment the most out of any of the series so far. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the psy, and how Silence had come to be implemented was fascinating - as was seeing personal examples of cases where it (or something like it) might well be an answer - if not a perfect one - to some very real issues psy have. I found myself really liking both leads - Dev for his control and pure, sheer alpha-ness; and Katya for managing to still be competent despite how broken she'd started the book. I didn't find everything they did or thought sensible (or even internally consistent), but there was nothing that got in the way of the story for me. Some of the conversations were also SCORCHINGLY hot, which is never going to be a bad thing for me. All up, happy giving this one an 8/10 - it's reminded me that, actually? I rather like this series!
