It's more of a 1.5 star actually... Reading this piece makes me feel like going through a brief daydream while doing people watching... you know those moments when you are bored out of your mind that you pass the time making up little stories in your head about the people you see around you just to make the passing of time bearable - stories that are so brief they are actually just plots with potential, stories with just enough details to make it a little bit interesting than staring off into space, but not enough to actually merit it as a good worthy story. A glimpse, a moment, that's how it feels. You can't really blame it, the shortness of the story is its weakness, not being able to explore or build enough to make an impression. It couldn't have made an impact even if it really wanted to. I say it's okay, for an interesting plot line, but it's not really a story that's unique or different, or something that would be retained in the mind after reading it. It's just well, it's not sucky, it's not bad, but I wouldn't say it's good.

My Thoughts: When I went into this one, I knew I was probably going to get emotional. From page one, I could see Butter’s struggles and how lonely he seemed to be. We are introduced to Butter who is a really big guy. He’s obese and has trouble losing weight. He likes to eat. He’s always enjoyed eating and its taking its toll on him. He doesn't get made fun of too bad, people just ignore him. One day, he is put into an embarrassing situation and later comes up with the idea to eat himself to death. He thinks people will watch, it will get him some attention. He starts a website. People go to the website. Kids that once teased him, mostly the popular kids are suddenly his best friends. Butter does like the attention even if its not for the right reasons. Its hard to go from being so lonely to getting invited to parties. On top of all of this, Butter likes one of the popular girls, Anna. Anna was a nice girl but at times I didn’t like her very much. Sometimes she didn’t act all that much different from the popular kids and that bugged me. Butter starts planning his last meal and things go crazy from there. He’s what people are talking about. He’s popular. Butter was an intense story. I really enjoyed this novel but it was kind of morbid when you think about it. It has a good message, buried deep but I hated the way I felt reading this. I wanted to do something. I wanted to say something. This was an emotional read for me. Please give Butter a chance. If you’ve ever been bullied, read this. Overall: I really liked this one even though it was kind of sad and made me want to cry throughout it. Cover: Like it. It’s not real colorful but I still think its appealing. this was a quick read and just good fun. Great Characters and I loved the location complete with southern drawls and the sounds of the bayou.

Who doesn't love a good romantic novel? The author writes with confidence and tells a touching story that may seem superficially creepy, but never actually becomes so.

there are not many books that fall onto this shelf... this one was soooooo dry, despite the water theme of the first 30 pages.

Not because of the writing...But this wasn't the best way to tell the story. All sort of flashback and then finally we get to when they are grown women...I thought this book would be more about that and less focus on their childhood/adolescence. I admit I skipped pages of this book too. I just was thinking the whole time, when are we going to get to the main point? Sorry, to say, I didn't care for this read.

very interesting inside story of a Hmong family in Merced CA. This book is perfect for those who are going into health care because it deals with cultural differences and how it affects health care providers as well as the Hmong community itself. It's often frustrating and it's a great eye opener to those who are pro-western medicine all the way. It's also interesting to just learn about one ethnic group that not too many people know about just yet (unless you live in California).

Hemingway lays down some great life advice and tells us who was an asshole in Paris in the 1920s.

The is an incredibly thorough detail of how Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other institutions helped to push us into the Financial Crisis of 2008. Unfortunately, it's also presented in a very dry manner. That's probably due to the subject matter being complicated, but I've read other authors (such as Michael Lewis) who have been able to pass this intricate info along more interestingly. Morgenson does dig the deepest of the books I've read on it thus far, however; so she gets points for that. May want to look elsewhere before starting this one.
