I really enjoyed this book, but it was a tough read. I've been wanting to read it for a long time as it's Kipling's only true novel. It's difficult to read as I am not very familiar with the Great Game and there are many noted references. I know there is a debate of whether this is a children's book or not, but compared to other books I have read since graduating high school, this is genuinely more beautifully written than most and with more complex themes. Maybe I live in the wrong time period to understand its potential as a children's book. Next, I would like to see the movie with Dean Stockwell playing KIM.

Another very good book. My only hesitation is the fated love story, I know a lot of people go for that but I like my heroines to have an element of choice in their actions, and there's definitely a stalker-ish feeling about the way Reyes has been watching Charley for her entire life. And dealing with Reyes is a much bigger part of this book than the last. But the PI story is still very significant, and I do like the Reyes story. Anyway, I'm not complaining, it just knocked it back a little bit in my preferences but not in my judgement of how well it was done. I still plowed through it in one day, loved the mystery, romance and humor and can't wait for the next book.

I read it in High School and enjoyed it. I tried reading it again last year, but I lost the book on the train.

Finally read it and I can understand the hype, frakkin' awesome! I love the oral history structure, reading these stories coming at the events in different ways, from different countries and cultural perspectives even. Great narrative voices, very memorable and conversational. Some things I especially liked: the possibility of Michael Stipe surviving and being amongst the zombie fighters, the anecdote about the journalist lining up in front of a building in Moscow in the 1970s and people just getting in line behind him no questions because they assumed it would be worth it, and the detailed description of the Great Patriotic War complex in Kiev with Rodina Mat looking down at everyone as they ran for their lives from the city. My friend says the audiobook version is excellent, so I'll be looking for that at some point.

I have to admit the premise of this book was very attractive. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone went straight to heaven after death, regardless of what they believed or did during this life time? I do totally agree with the author that we are ALL God's children, that He loves ALL of us equaly and that He wants ALL to be saved. And I truly believe, that as a result, He will do everything in His power to save us, even by allowing us to see His glory at our moment of death so that we can make that decision with our eyes wide open and with a total understanding. But Jesus Himself said there is a hell and that those who reject Him will spend the rest of eternity there. So to doubt that is to doubt everything that Jesus ever said and did. I didn't actually finish this book but I read enough. I still highly recommend "Blue Like Jazz" for those who are struggling with the Christian faith.

Wow - i can't explain how sad it was to read this book. It's hard to have a view of someone based on what people let you see...."the package." then you get a look at how things really are and you can't help but be disappointed. i know, people live life how they want to....don't judge right. i just could not help but feel sad concerning certain parts of this book and her life. it was hard to read because sometimes it would be great and then to read how she can speak was to much.

This book was okay. It seemed to drag on a lot in places and I just wanted her to get to the point. I loved The Devil Wears Prada, which is why I chose this book. It didn't compare, however.

Sansom does an excellent job of blending the politics of Henry VIII'ths court, with the machinations of Cromwell, the legal court system of the day with mystery and murder. The first of the Mathew Shardlake (hunchback, lawyer, and Cromwell's spy) mysteries.
