I feel I should've liked this one more than I did, but the speed and nonchalance with which the heroine started gaining her powers sort of ruined it for me. Also, I didn't really like her as a character. Everything was too easy for her. I like female characters with the ability to defend themselves and all, but in her case, it's like overnight she becomes this incredible warrior.

If you like pop culture and want to learn from media trends and changes you will find this book interesting. Most interesting is the concept of knowledge communitites. A knowledge community is any group of people who through a commom interest want to gather their knowledge to socialize, learn, investigate. Of importance to a knowledge group is the process of learning, gahtering data, decyphering intelligence, and drawing conclusions from this process. The author uses the example of Surivior Spoiler internet groups. The shared experience of gathering intelligence from many sources, of learning not from folks who leak information but from pure found evidence spur the members on. When they are presented with infomration from somone form the inside of the Survivor production team the thrill of the investigation fades away. Its all in the process for this knowledge community. How can I use this information in my job? does this effect the way educators should be approaching teaching plans and lessons. Maybe so. However, I question the premise that this type of community is what is needed for essential education that our client's market. The idea of setting up a knowledge community and knowledge community experiences sould have online applications but I question how an educator might control this environment.

This was a very good biography (essentially) of C. Julius Caesar Octavian (Augustus). Looking both at Octavian, this book takes a wider view and examines the people and political processes that allowed the transition from the Roman Republic to the Empire, while simultaneously "telling the story" of the collapse of the Roman Republic. My only qualm was the book's fatalistic viewpoint, which felt that the Republic was doomed to fail and that Augustus was predestined to play the role which he did in Roman history.

Another delightful episode in the lives of those kids from Hoboken and Henrietta of The Hoboken Chicken Emergency fame. Daniel Pinkwater has hit a stride with this series. The writing style is uncomplicated, entirely suitable for a reader who has mastered, for example, Dr. Seuss, but the inspired lunacy will have readers of all ages laughing out loud. Don't let the blurbs on the back of the book about "the power of art to enliven life" scare you away. This is fun.

This book has a ton of information as it attempts to cover thousands of years of religious evolution from the beginnings of Judaism to modern atheism. As a result, it's sometimes difficult to navigate through the various names of prophets, ascetics, philosophers and the like, some of whom are well known and others who are not, and whose ideas tend to bleed into one another despite the wide gaps of time that separate them. Still, the book inspired me to read up on my Theology. In particular, Sufism, which is the mystical sect of Islam, as well as some Islamic Philosophy, which attempted to link the teachings off the Koran with the scientific ideals of rational thought.
