i was once warned not to read the first book from "wheel of time". i should've listened to that warning -> now i'm completely addicted to this neverending series. it's worse than caffeine :) being addictive or not, i still think that robert jordan is a genius in his very own world. how can a man write two pages about how to iron silk when the book should be about the battle between good and the evil? that's a sign of true genius. i really enjoy reading these books and at this point having read all the books translated to finnish my opinion is that the first one is still the best one.

In one word: Brilliant!! Ok, Ian McEwan is no Roald Dahl, but I'm sure kids will love these stories just as much like they love Matilda. I especially loved the meaning behind the different stories which is, according to me, "never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes". Ian McEwan is a genius in my eyes and I love his work. This book, of course, is a bit different from his usual work because it's really about fantasy and imagination, but that doesn't mean it's not as good. Sure, it's no "Atonement", but it is as amazing. Kids will love it because of the daydreams and the fantasy and adults will love it because of all the symbols and metaphors for life and living that life. I recommend every teacher of English to put this book on the reading list. It is a gem!

The Relationship Cure had a lot of good insights into making connections ("bids") with people to develop healthy relationships. The book really wasn't what I expected though and I got bored with it. I thought it would have more research from studies (which I'm sure all the points and such were taken from studies, but I wanted to hear about the actual studies). Also, especially towards the end of the book all the same questions and exercises got very repetitive. I think there was good information, it just didn't hold my attention.

I was bitten by the want of this book back in June of last year. A small bookshop in Barcelona was the first place I had seen books in English since I had gotten to the Continent six weeks before. The Thirteenth Tale made the long trip back across the Atlantic with me in the solid company of a Spanish translation of Don Quijote, The Name of the Wind, and Carrie Fisher's un-biography. When I returned there was a flurry of activity, unpacking to do, work to get back to, and school looming ever on the horizon. I filed the book away and did not think about it for a year. This summer, after finishing two other books and looking at my overfull bookshelves wondering what to re-read, I saw it, its crisp spine beckoning. Now was the time to open the pages and see what I had waited over a year to read. I was not disappointed in the slightest. From the first few pages, the novel's old-fashioned style of writing threw me for a loop. I had to read the first two pages more than once before I was able to slip into the almost Victorian-style the author had chosen. Even in the first person, set ostensibly in the modern age, the narrator's voice is old and more reminiscent of Bronte or Austen than that of a modern narrator. But the story, a true Gothic horror in the vein of the most horrid ghost story to ever come out of the 18th and 19th centuries, needs this slow voice, this careful approach at horror. I came into this novel expecting a story and left having been given a tale. It only takes a few pages before the true, disturbing sense of creeping horror sets in, but once it does the novel is loathe to shake it off. Even in the final chapters the sense of impending evil lingers just out of sight. An excellent story woven by an expert. Excuse me while I go see what else Ms. Setterfield has written.

The book kind of brings a new sight of Gena Showalter, The characters are simple badass cursed warriors seeking peace for their tormented souls when The Greek gods, that cursed them, are defeated by Cronus, who become interested in their lifes making them race to find the pandora box. The first book introduces Violence and his experience after meeting a curius girl seeking some silence for herself

This was a great story, it's just that once the bulk of the story was told, a lot of print was spent on politics, which I felt was very dry reading. Otherwise I would have given it a higher rating.

2nd Reading, Feb '13: I'm still hovering between a 3 and a 4 for this one. There are a few things I love: the characterizations are excellent. Ares, in particular--how could you not love his brash, out-of-touch idiocy by the end of this story. How can a character I know nothing about suddenly become my favorite Avenger?) Cho's art is gorgeous, and the color work accents it perfectly. The plot is solid but not quite revolutionary, and there are some things I'd like explained, but it certainly isn't boring. My only serious complaint is the thought bubbles. I don't know if Bendis was trying something new here, or if the letterers got out of control, but following every word bubble with a snide thought bubble gets annoying really fast. But, other than that, an above-average (but not great) Avengers story. And, oh: the "picking the team" portion of the book is now one of my fave Avengers moments.

I liked the idea of a book about an accident reconstructionist recovering from her own accident, but that was the only thing worthwhile in this book. It was very disjointed, with constant switching of perspective and a convoluted "mystery".
