09/24/13 - 2nd read, as background to reading Spook Squad, the next book in the series. My original review is still very much relevant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jordan Castillo Price once again exceeds all expectations with this new installment in the lives of Vic and Jacob. The main characters remain at the top of my favorites, the relationship continues to evolve and we witness the growth and depth of their feelings for each other. We learn more about the main and secondary characters that appear in this story, until they all become friends that we miss when the last word is read. The story continues to grab a hold of the reader and not let go, impossible to put down until you are finished. Even then, I wanted to just start over and read it again. Which I will do, but later, so I can tantalize myself with the prospect. And then you relish the little nibbles she provides on what the next story will be about. The editing is superb, not one word missing, not one word too many. I laughed, cried, made comments while reading that made my husband look at me like I'm crazy, and generally enjoyed myself immensely. Can't wait for the next one to come out. If you like paranormal romance combined with m/m, this is one story you will absolutely love. Be sure to read the previous books to get the whole picture. You won't be sorry.

I had expected it to be light and funny. It's not. It's bawdy and bitter. Towards the end, the tone becomes almost despairing. Gulliver's ultimate conclusion is "horses are better people than people."

This was also one of my favorites as a child... If you like "Where The Sidewalk Ends" then you will enjoy this book just the same.

The play "Fences" by August Wilson was a book that I personally wouldn't read, but it did teach me something important. This play taught me tha importance of family and how becasue of one simple thing a family can be destroyed. This play is about a man named Troy and his struggles as a husband, a father, and a friend. Troy has a wife named Rose who he loves, but sometimes gets a little too aggresive with her. Troy also has a son named Cory. He wants Cory to keep his job at the A&M, but Cory wants to play football for college. Troy continues to struggle with these issues that seem to pick at him everyday.

I actually reviewed this book for InterfaithFamily.com back in 2009. So as not to step on rights, here's a link to my review: A Troubling Love Triangle - InterfaithFamily.com http://bit.ly/atAmWx

This book knocked my socks off. It's not what I expected. Looking at the back of the book, I figured "Rock Stars take over England, it'll be a romp." No. This is an often brutal and savage book, with many scenes of tenderness as well. This is a strong, character driven novel with plenty of plot twists and political turmoil. There are three protagonists , although Fioridna gets the most Point of View time, especially at the start. She is a singer at war with the founder of her own band, but that's nothing compared to her other problems. Sage is the leader of a band of serious lunatics (they all were hologram "masks" of skulls over their heads). Ax is a guitar hero who has been thinking of leading England for a long time. As Great Britain falls apart, they find themselves riding a wave of counterculture dissent into political power. But who is really in charge, and can any good come of this? The near future world building is very cool. More cool than realistic, which makes a great story, but not a probable future. The tech is very interesting, but low key. This is a story of characters in an exciting and exceptional setting. The only science fiction readers I wouldn't recommend this to is anyone struggling with addition. There is a ton of drug use, and even though it's been decades, it made me think "ooh, that sounds fun." Except for the hurling scenes. This is the first book in a series, but it does stand alone fairly well. I thought it was a stand alone book until very near the end, when Gwyneth Jones kept reminding me of the plot threads that hadn't been tied up yet. I look forward to reading more.
