I loved this book from the very beginning; liked it better than "Girl with a Pearl Earring". I was not crazy about some of the characters but loved the writing and the way the book was laid out. There is too much to say about it except it made me happy, sad, tense, and mad. That is a good book! Page 268 of my copy has one of the saddest paragraphs I've ever read when Kitty has to let Maude go One of my favorite quotes comes from this book... "Over his shoulder I saw a star fall - It was me."

This book is interesting but the cover description is a bit misleading. Although there is a child abductor is on the loose the story really concentrates on the two children's day to day lives and mischief. The abductor is just someone who is a problem at times during the story and I expected him to be a much greater part of the story.Oh and I forgot to mention that I won this book on goodreads first reads.

Incredibly arduous to read, this book has three main topics that the author writes incessantly about - food, the pint, and wanking. It'll leave you as frustrated as the author must have been by his childhood - and perhaps that is the point.

This book started out a bit slow...not enough to make me not read it. Tessa is terminally I'll and lives out her last days carrying out her list of things to do. This book will make you laugh, cry, love, be angry and even be somewhat indifferent. Tessa and the ones she cares about truly see how love can impact us. Jenny Downham wrote this book well. She made poetry in death without getting too cliche or mundane about it. Overall good read.

SOUPS! I LOVE soups! I just like being able to throw everything in one pot, AND have it taste good, AND being able to add variety by adding all sorts of additional toppings AND being able to make more by simply adding water (or cream or broth). LOVE soups, and there are many good soup recipes in this book.

Immediately though, Gilbert, with her casual writing style, humor, and quirky personality, opens up and speaks to me like an old friend and so now I feel compelled to listen to her story. Indeed, Gilbert appears self-involved but that is the point of the book. She is on a one-year journey to save herself after a terrible incident tears her apart. Everyone can relate to her quest on one's individual level--from the night she first called to God on the bathroom floor to her harmless food indulgences in Italy to her struggles with self-discipline in India. Read it to witness the infinite healing power of God, love*, and goood food! Watch her as she grows out of the depths of despair and into the light of faith, and be inspired. *For souls who love too much, bead 48 is a must read :).

My esteem for this book rose when I read the following volumes in the trilogy, so it should come as no surprise that my second time through it was even more enjoyable than the first. Maps and character guide aside, Bakker doesn't hold the reader's hand much in introducing his world. So there's a great deal of content, especially early on, that was more potent this time -- plus there's some very interesting foreshadowing. This book is the beginning of something amazing, full of thought-provoking characters, sorcerous intrigue and dizzying philosophic depths. It's a rich feast, not suitable for every pallet, but well worth the journey.

Eminim bunun için çok eleştiriler alacağım, ama bu kitabı o kadar sevmedim ki bitirmedim bile, ki bu nadiren yaptığım bir şey (Bu benim tek yıldıza layık tanımım). Üzücü olan kısım, Dune'un başlangıçta ümit vermesidir (her bölümün başındaki o sinir bozucu pasajlar hariç). Ayrıca bir karakterin diğerini çok özel bir şekilde zehirlediği, ilgimi çeken gerçekten ilginç bir sahne vardı. Ama sonra karakterler çölde sona eriyor. Bu noktada, hikaye yeni başladı ve öldü (Çöl şakalarında susuzluktan ölmeyeceğim, her ne kadar baştan çıkarılsam da). Hikaye öylesine öyleydi ki, o noktaya kadar tüm karakterlerle ilgilenmeyi bıraktım ve o zaman daha fazla okumanın bir anlamı olmadığını anladım. Bir noktada geri dönüp bu romanı tekrar okumaya çalışabilirim, çünkü yeterince insan bana bunun iyi olduğunu söyledi (ve birisinin bu kitapları sevmesi gerektiğini anlamam için kesinlikle yeterince devam filmi var).
