Just absolutely excellent. In his notes at the end, Hinds writes: After researching the history pretty thoroughly, I opted to break from realism in most of my designs, while preserving just enough historical touches to give Odysseus's world a ring of authenticity. He accomplishes this masterfully, with pictures that find just the right balance of realism, detail, style, and atmosphere. Of course, he has to sacrifice much of the text, but he translates it to pictures in a way that captures the action beautifully, even when the panels run across an entire spread wordlessly. Other times he uses near-direct quotes from the various translations, and finds plenty of space for dialogue and text. He melds the two, pictures and text, into gripping storytelling. I found myself more carried away by the story the further I read, and this may have just become my favorite retelling of Homer's tale.

Carried my Kindle everywhere so I could keep reading every spare moment. Felt like the characters were counting on me to read them through to "mission accomplished." Can hardly stand the wait for Book 3.

I really, really enjoyed these short stories. They were all re-tellings of various fairy tales, and I'm fast becoming addicted to fairytale re-tellings. Beautiful writing and compelling storytelling throughout.

absolute bad ass rock and roll world of the people who cook your food when you go out to eat.

This is really more of a 3 1/2 than a 3. The action was a bit slow in the beginning, and Enzo's somewhat pompous manner of "speaking" bugged me, but the emotion in these pages is palpable and real, and the racing metaphor is beautiful. Oh, and I cried at the end. Enough said.

She writes about being a child, a mom, a boss, being in show biz, meeting Palin, etc. I felt I was reading a memoir by someone who did not want to let you in or perhaps (with as plunked out as the last chapter came across) maybe just did not have time to do so. Really, I would call it a series of essays - a mix of funny bits and stories more then I would call it a memoir. A quick read and her self-deprecating sense of humor is for the most part very well expressed in the book. It did have many moments that were extremely funny but she keeps those experiences at a pretty surface level and so this book ultimately left me unsatisfied. Not sorry I read it but just a bit unsatisfying.

I was going to write the review after I finished the movie last night , but I was interrupted by a science final (my son’s) and didn't get to finish it :( BUT I did finish the book :) And it was great! It had a lot of action and adventure in it. The book is about 15 year old John Smith - one of the 9 kids who escaped from the planet Lorien John Smith (who started out as Daniel) has been on the run since he was 4 years old. The Mogadorians invaded his planet and wiped everything out. Including the Trees, the Grass, the Water - NOTHING lives on L anymore. But 9 children and their Cepan (guardians) were fortunate enough to get off the planet before everything was killed. These 9 children are responsible for keeping their race alive. What's special about these 9 children? They have Legacies - Special "gifts" that they inherent from their parents. And they Cepan's are in charge to make sure they are safe from the Mogadorians and teach them how to use their "Gifts" when they come to them. The Mogadorians - followed these Children to the planet Earth, where they are separated and trying to blend in - The Mogadorians are trying to kill them off one by one. But there is a special spell that was put on the children so they are all connected. The M can only kill the Lorien children in a specific order - or else they can't be killed at all. The book starts off as the first 3 Children die - Daniel (John) gets a burning mark on his leg every time one dies - and he knows he is next.. he is... "Number four" It's time to move again - Henri (his Cepan ) is there to protect him, and to make sure he has everything he needs -new ID, new Name , new Home, New everything - and everything else they left behind is burned away. They move to Paradise Ohio - where he becomes John Smith. John is tired of being on the run, tired of blending in, not playing sports, not making friends, not having a life a typical teenager should have - Once in Paradise, he starts school, and people start to notice him.. He meets a girl .. makes a friend, and he almost gets into a fight - the first of his Legacies (Gifts) come to him, and it's something everyone would notice if he hadn't run off – he defiantly made a first impression at school The book has a lot of ups and downs - I cry easily when I read - and this book was no different (not a bad thing) It left a lot up to your imagination - the description of the characters were great (and the movie seemed to do a good job getting it to look scary, but not TOO scary :) Great book - looking forward to finishing up the movie tonight :) They Changed a lot of the book for the movie - but even my husband said it was better then he thought it would be :)

This is a sequel of sorts to Sanctuary. The narrative surrounding Temple Drake as an adult is a play, which is framed by sequences describing the history of Yoknapatawpha from its founding. The play is mostly long-winded monologues, only memorable for the famous line, "The past isn't dead. It isn't even past." The prose pieces, however, are brilliant and representative of Faulkner's greatest written achievements.

i loved her study series and was slightly disappointed with this one after those. generally i really liked the story but it did drag a little at the beginning and i got a little fed up with her trudging through the vents all the time! but i loved the way the story panned out and am looking forward to the next one.
