Not only is this book very well written, but it also is a useful educational tool for teens. It gives excellent insight into the dynamics of teen dating violence and what goes on inside the heads of teen abusers.

I'm unusually weird and generally enjoy unusually weird things, but this book was just a little over the top for me. Parts of the book were so explicit that I gagged or had to skip over several pages in order to preserve my post-Evangelical purity, but I kept reading. Wetlands is about an 18 yr old woman who is recovering from ass surgery. She's a child of divorce trying to use her stay in the hospital to get her parents back together. Basically the book is a narration of everything she thinks and does while recovering...from ass surgery. You can probably figure out the rest from there.

I am not the biggest fan of Robert Munsch, because he uses words like stupid, dumb and fat in his books and I don't think we really need to encourage kids with that kind of vocabulary. However, I LOVE this book in spite of that. This is a fantastically wacky and entertaining early lesson in peer pressure and how a kid can march to the beat of her own drummer even when the whole school is seemingly against her. You go, Robert Munsch!

Good early book (ages 1 and up). No words, it's all pictures. It's nice to make up the story as you page along with your child. If you are looking for something like this for older children (5-8), try David Weisner's books - I like Flotsam and Sector 7 the best. Likewise, Museum Trip, Trainstop and Rainstorm by Barbara Lehman are awesome no-word books, too. Really good stuff.
