This is an ambitious novel, with a great deal of philosophical rigor. Some of the characters have more vitality than others. But the best ones will stay with me for a long time.

I'm giving it 4 stars because it is that well written. However, I have to say I didn't particularly enjoy reading this. It was too dense and too lacking in any kind of sympathetic characters for my personal taste. It's thought-provoking though.

Warning: This book about two teenage best friends dealing with cancer will make you cry. Touching, tender story.

Another example of a movie I preferred to the book.

My two volumes of Apostol originally belonged to my father. Once when I was about twelve I tried to learn the sigma summation notation from the beginning of the first volume and got confused, but all things in due time I suppose. I've never read either of these books and hold onto them for sentimental reasons. Nevertheless, they appear to be perfectly good introductory calculus textbooks.

I was really excited when I found out my library had this book. I came across Karim Rashid's work as a student in design and I've always checked in regularly on his website to see what new and innovative things he's come up with. I am definately inspired by his use of color/texture/pattern and materials but the way he defines living spaces is truely remarkable to me. The best way for me to describe him would be to say he's innovative, futuristic and really hip or funky (for lack of a better word) I find Karim's work fasinating and inspiring in a way that gets me thinking out of my own little sphere. I can appreciate what he does, especially in his retail or restaurant spaces(amazing!), but I know I couldn't live in any of his residential ones. It would drive me crazy! :)

As I waited for my daughter at the library (watching a movie -spring break activities) I picked up this book from the new non-fiction shelf. Some of the main points: WE ARE DRAWING DOWN ON BASIC NATURAL RESOURCES TOO FAST. WHAT WE "REMOVE" IN 1 YR TAKES 1.3 YRS TO BE REPLACED. (I.E exponential catastrophe) First time I heard of Redefining progress organization that among others things looks into Genuine progress indicator and not GDP as the measure for well being, development etc. Suzuki makes it very clear that the solution is to change our behavior by changing our thinking, seeing, perception of SEPARATENESS!! We are not separate. Air, water, soil, fire, biodiversity, love, spirit,....we are all ONE. Dont forget that from the moment after the Bing Bang, every particle exerted a pull on every other particle. ATTRACTION is built into the very fabric of the cosmos. This wisdom comes from a big scientist (using of course the methodo of reductionism in science) but being that has come to deeply understand that we need to know that the WHOLE is what matters and not the parts. THE WHOLE IS MORE THAN THE SUM OF THE PARTS. Dont forget that every breath we take, contains (argon) atoms that were once in the bodies of Joan of Arc and Jesus Christ. How can that awareness change you?

Nice story for young children to understand how important having a school really is. Loved the pictures in this story.

Interesting book, but a bit pessimistic. I'd like to think that we will begin to grow beyond wars and endless conflict and political maneuvering in the next 100 years. It is a study of what could be, but I don't know how accurate it can be... then again, I'm not an expert in geo-politics. Friedman's historical info is quite interesting and comes to interesting (and logical) conclusions... I just don't know if they can happen. But then again, where were we in 1911?!? Could those alive then believe how far we've advanced in the last 100 years? A recommended read only if you like world affairs (with a touch of science-fiction).
