Good but creepy - this was my first CMcC read.

Meh.
We chose this for my office's book club...we wanted to do a classic. Shannon and I shot down the cries of "Great Gatby!" (I love the G.G. but come on...even the prison book club in the Wire read it.) I knew I'd love it...I'd never read much Hemingway but had always idealized him. It turned out to be the perfect book for this moment in my life-- 25 years old, living in a big, historic city, without a penny...hungry and surrounded by great and not-so-great artists. Barely able to light the fireplace, but booking short trips to nearby fabulous locales anyway. Yes, it's more vignettes than a whole story, but it reminded me of Nin, and I liked that.

This was my favorite Little House book as a child. And oddly, one of the only ones I'd never reread as an adult, until now.
This series is definitely growing on me. Wouldn't recommend for anyone squeamish on the "romance" side though.

Very unique story line but what a bore to read!

A book half from the pov of a guy with SZ. Effective, but very jarring on my own brain. I would not go so far as to call reading it an act of trauma. The discussion we had about it was very fun though.

This is one of those books that I've read several times in my life, as a child and again as an adult. This story of a family having quintuplets (along with two older adopted boys, one with a severe hearing deficiency) is a fascinating one.

A fascinating study of how the legacy of Aisha has been interpreted and reinterpreted amongst Muslims (male scholars) throughout history. The author's main point is that understandings of how Aisha is depicted relates to the broader political/economic/cultural state Muslims find themselves in. Her legacy also underpins discussions of the role of women in society, especially in terms of leadership.

This book starts out as a somewhat interesting look at what can happen to a journalist, or a writer of creative non-fiction, if they stray from the truth. He is, presumably, completely honest in his account of his disgrace with the New York Times, and his apparent willingness to help others avoid his mistakes is quite admirable. Unfortunately, the book quickly turns into the literary equivalent of one of those sordid television courtrooms, and his personal involvement with Longo overshadows whatever point the book was meant to have.
