I'm enough of a conformist fuddy-duddy that I'd never heard of this author, apparently famous on the Internet to considerably more than 15 people as a blogger, adventurer, journalist and all-around do-goodnik. Once I chanced upon his book, The Art of Non-Conformity, and gave it a quick read-through, I'm favorably disposed to Chris Guillebeau's views and admiring of his mission. But I'm already enough of a non-conformist to know that people capable of taking Guillebeau's advice--to create their own ideal lives using unusual strategies--probably won't need this book to give them a jump start. As a self-help book, it's a cheery, upbeat treatise on Guillebau's own entrepreneurial style. The book boasts plenty of personal anecdotes, a handy guide to featured websites in the endnotes, and lots of friendly, liberal boosterism about how you, too, can earn enough money to finance your own personal dreams--and not become an asshole in the doing. This is a can-do guide as well as a how-to.
