Trillin's witty collection of essays about sampling local food that he can't easily get in Manhattan. He seeks out such culinary delights as fish tacos, posole, macaroni pie, pan bagnat, and barbeque pork sandwiches. Excellent read for any chowhound.

Good mindless mystery/thriller. I read it in one day last week, and today when I looked at it I couldn't think of what it was about until I looked at the cover. So, I really enjoyed it while I read it, but it obviously didn't stick........

This non-fiction book starts with Robert Flaherty venturing to Canada to make a film about the Inuit (Eskimos), the 1920 silent movie, Nanook of the North. His film is considered to be the first documentary and by some, including Martin Scorsese, the greatest documentary ever made. From here the book totally changes in tone and them. The Inuits are moved, by the Canadian government, to a harsh land about a 1000 miles north. This movement and abandonment parallels what the United States did to the Indians. The conditions are so extreme; it is amazing that people can survive in such harsh condition. Every day of the Inuits live is a day of struggle. This book is heart-wrenching. Impressive book.

How to Rewire your Brain 1) read Murakami's "Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" 2) when you get to page 241, have two glasses of red wine with dinner in a nice restaurant that you've never been to before 3) walk around for an hour, taking in the sights and sounds 4) go to a very late showing of David Lynch's new film "Mullholland Drive" 5) right before the movie, drink a cup of black tea

After a VERY slow start, I actually ended up enjoying this book. I am going to read the second book in the series to see if that one is better.

I thought The Wednesday Wars was an amazing book. I thought that it was an amazing book because it was a very funny book. One reason why I thought it was very funny when Holling Hoodhood had to wear bright yellow tights for the play. That was also my favorite part. This book reminded me when I was acting in front of people. I felt very embarrassed just like him. The next thing I want to know is why Mrs. Baker hated him so much. She made him do the play. And I was very confused when Mrs. Baker made him do the play. When I was reading the book, I felt bad for Holling Hoodhood. He had to go in front of people in bright yellow tights. The third thing I want to talk about is my favorite character is Holling Hoodhood because he was so funny. With the tights and the play. When I was reading this book I kept picturing Holling Hoodhood in bright yellow tights. Finally, I will recommend this book to people that like action. I want to read another book by this author because he makes his book very funny and creative. Please read this book because it is an amazing book. This is why I gave this book five stars.

This book looks at the different ways that we in America aquire the food we eat and the choices that go into these decisions. The first section discusses the industrial food that is predominant in our culture, its evolution and the logical future to expect from it. He goes on to look at how industrial has influenced organic and the resulting industrial organic food that has come about in supermarkets. Beyond organic-farms, sustainability and respect for the land and animals we eat takes up the entire middle of the book. This was my personal favorite prat to read. The science and stewrdship that go in to farms that have this as their goal is fascinating to me. This is also how I hope to get the bulk of my food-due to my location it is a bit of a challenge and in looking around my area, I've found that even the farmer's markets are seriously lacking in farmers. The final section is the hunter-gatherer approach to aquiring food. While not a practical way of feeding oneself nowadays, Pollan's description of the feeling that were a part of his hunting and gathering experience were thought provoking and pointed to how we had arrived to agriculture and some of our other food attitudes.
