I picked this up from the bookshare shelf at Tobacco Caye Lodge in Belize. Despite some silliness and a single plot hole that is so giant I surely must have missed something, somewhere - I found this thoroughly enjoyable. It reminded from the very beginning of The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker, if said novel was less ridiculous, less tedious, and less like a pornographic acid trip, and had been crossed with The Shining and Sliders.

Mr. Florida is disappointing. I wanted to believe that he would have something to say, but I guess this book is mainly for city planners looking for ways to entice young artists to their cities (and why they should).

5 stars go to books that stay with me and that keep me coming back to them. The first time I read this book, I was inspired to pull out my pencil & underline beautiful reflections. It certainly was not a page turner- slow & contempletive- but I keep returning to re-read & underline more.

"Some days are like that... Even in Australia." This is one of those books that has so many levels (like a parfait, or an onion). It begs for multiple readings. On one level it is the story of Alexander, an ordinary kid whose day doesn't go as he wants it to. Yet it is also a treatise on the human condition - our selfishness and self-centeredness, the travails and hardships that assail each person's life, and the resolute courage needed to stand our ground and live our lives where we find ourselves, one day at a time. Even on the days we'd rather move to Australia.

This novel was far too long for the story it presented. It really wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't earth-shattering, either. Though drawing pretty obviously on the writings of Austen, Bronte and Burney, Klassen creates rather vivid characters, and her style of prose is very inviting and appropriate for the time period. Those elements combined to create a nice mood and an enjoyable story. By the time I reached 200 pages, though, I was honestly wondering how much more story there could be to tell. By the third hundred pages, I realized that most of what went on in the 200s could have probably been eliminated - or at least heavily edited. If I have any major criticisms, it is that too much time was spent on a very slow-moving plot and not enough on character development, making some of the character changes or burgeoning romances seem slightly contrived. If asked for a recommendation, I would say that it is a nice book, but not worth the time it takes to read it. If it were shorter, or moved more quickly, it would definitely be worth the effort.

I've been waiting a while to write my review for Insurgent, because to be honest I'm not completely sure what to say about it. I was super excited for the book, I devoured Divergent in one afternoon and was desperate for more of the story right away. So when I finally got my hands on a copy of Insurgent, I cleared my plans for the day and dived in right away. Right from the start it did seem different to Divergent in many ways, I knew it wouldn't be the same. Lots of things happened in the book and things had to be switched around and changed, but to me it just wasn't as good as Divergent was. I know a lot of bloggers read and loved Insurgent. I just don't feel the same way about it, and I know I'll probably end up taking abuse for putting up this review, as it's not going to be all gushy about Four and how great this book is. Don't get me wrong, it was a really great read! I loved the plot and getting to see some of my favourite book characters again after a long year without them. It just didn't seem to have the same element of suspense or thrill that Divergent did. I think that maybe this is just me though, I find that with a lot of dystopian series', I feel let down by the second book in the series. I was the exact same way about the Matched series as well. I did feel let down by it, and to be honest I can't explain why. There was a lot of action and drama going on in the book, which I loved! There was a few Tris and Four scenes, which again I loved! I also liked seeing the different factions and learning more about them, especially with a war raging around them all. I think I just expected more from this book, which again is probably my fault for getting my hopes up, and nothing at all to do with the book, really I can't fault anything in the story line at all. I did give it four stars, like I said there is nothing wrong with the book, it's just me and my alarmingly high expectations. The plot is good and fast paced, which I like. The characters that I came to know in Divergent are back and smarter and funnier that ever! There are a few plot twists thrown in, which I am a huge sucker for! The writing style is easy to follow and sucks you in, the ending left me awe-struck and desperate for the third book! Overall, it was a really great book! I just need to learn not to expect miracles from authors, they are only human after all!

I loved this book. It was one of the most honest accounts of international reporting I have ever read. Paul Watson is a great reporter, a fantastic writer, and just brutally honest in this book. And he also happened to take one of the most famous photos ever taken. I have come back to this book again and again.

This is a great story for young teens. My son has read it a couple of times and loves it each time
