I really liked how this characterized specific people. It makes it easy to see me and others in a pure light. And I like the subtle and not so subtle changes that happen over time. I also like that the book didn't end with everyone having a change of heart. I actually think that a sequel could be written...I like Annie and want some of the "loose" ends tied up...although like it is I can have whatever ending I want for her love life.

Oh my gosh. Seriously, this is SUCH the best book for gardening in Texas. Neil Sperry is so awesome. He gives yo all the tools and knowledge you need to know about this subject, and then you can get all excited about how great your new garden is going to be...only to be slammed back into reality when you actually put down his book and go outside into the Hellishly HOT Texas summer and decide that, wow! just keeping the lawn mowed is fine and dandy, thanks, Neil. But really, sometimes, I just read it before I go to bed at night so I can have lovely dreams of fragrant flowers, riotous vines, luscious veggies, and trees that actually survive my tender care. *Sigh*

I loved the character of Stephen Ross when he was introduced as a boy in A Time for Dreams and then as a man in the MacDonnell Brides Trilogy. In this book he is down and out until he meets Deidre MacKay again. I loved the inclusion of the supernatural blood witches; it mixes two of my favorites--Scottish setting with vampires.

The ending was completely unexpected and wonderful, in a calamity kind of a way. I would have given this novel novel, with lots of great prose five starts, except that it dragged a bit in the middle, and the second characters were not clearly delinated.
