still reading - but so far, it's a very insightful look at Pakistani life in England, with fine details, nuances and hints that one might almost miss if not paying attention - but still end up with a full picture. lovely writing.

March 2007 - This was my favorite book to read to Ryan. It was so fun to see him learn where his fingers and noes were and to have him hold the book like he was reading it to me. When he left, I went and bought it for my future kids. August 2011 - After much thought, I decided to make this my special birth day book for William. Not only does it go nicely with Natalie's birthday book, but it focuses on a little boy. At first the running, walking, and talking won't be relevant, but I've gotten over that.

I enjoyed this short story collection by David McAfee. I'm glad I read the author's introduction or I would've been confused by the layout of the stories which was set up in a 100-word EXACTLY (including title) format. The story by David Dalgish took the rating from a 3-star to a 4-star review...wow. Great ending to a very good collection of short stories. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This was a great book!!!
Since this was one of Orson Scott Card's pre- Ender's Game books, I didn't quite know what to expect. It is science fiction in that space travel and multiple worlds are involved but it is nearer to fantasy since, for me anyway, sci-fi/fantasy both share a need for something other-worldly, hi-tech invention or magic respectively. Songmaster's other worldly aspect is the music itself and since it really doesn't count as invention or magic it can safely straddle the two genres. I didn't care much for the homosexual references; although since homosexuality seems so prominant in musicians (more so in theatre though) I suppose it could be an integral part of the story. Interestingly enough none of the singers in the book are homosexual though. Part of me wishes I could give the book two-and-a-half stars, since it really is better than two, but not three.

The book did not get interesting until it hit the middle...a lot of unexpected turn of events! But nonetheless a good read :)

This book is fucked up. The characters are fucked up. Their situations are fucked up. Their lives are fucked up. Their brains are fucked up. I couldn't put it down. I still don't have coherent enough thoughts to talk about it other than its fucked up. Wonderfully written, the author is fantastic. *edit after re-read 1/5/13 This book is just as fucked up the second time you read it, but I think some of the things hit me harder this time around. Really well written and insane.
