Amanda Quick is one is one my my favorites. This one is very good. Not just romance, but a good mystery too. Not much more I could say, but that it was a fun, quick moving historical romance.

This was NOT my favorite book by J.R.Ward,by far. ***Possible spoiler alert*** The way Manny and Payne fell in love was a bit much,but what REALLY got me was his rather unorthodox method of treatment. Then there is Vishous. Wow,this guy is seriously screwed up!! I really did not like him through the 1st half of the book,but he finally redeemed himself. I,personally do not find his extreme closeness w/Butch to be all that believable. C'mon,what 2 guys will comfort each other by laying naked in each others arms and NOT have anything sexual between them? Although Butch did seem to know how to cure what ailed V,or at least put it into remission. There really was not much action in the book. When Payne disappeared,I thought there would finally be some excitement,but it fizzled out.And talk about coincidence! I thought the way Butch turned out to be part vampire in his book was pretty pat. MASSIVE SPOILER HERE!!!!!! But now Manny finds out he and Butch are half brothers and he is related to Wrath?! Bruth-errrrrrr! Too much coincidence here,by far. We have a few new characters in this book that might turn out to be pretty interesting. I am looking forward to seeing what develops in the next book between the Band of Brothers and the Band of Bastards! And what about the heartbreak one of these bastards feels about his sister. I have a feeling we will be hearing more about brother and sister in the next installment....

This story is so beautiful. I grew up watching the Alfonso Cuarón movie and it was always one of my favorites. The only magic is all made-up, but that doesn't make it feel any less real. It is an excellent book to have in any little girl's bookshelf.

Before reading this book, I had read every prior Morrison novel--from the uneven-but-pretty-good-with-one-amazing-extended-metaphor ( Tar Baby) to the very good ( The Bluest Eye) to the overwhelming ( Beloved). I had a very high opinion of her. And then I read Paradise. The Nobel committee should have asked politely if they could have their prize back. Morrison can't write white characters. Brilliantly sympathetic portrait of a child molester? Yes (see Cholly in Bluest Eye). White character even vaguely recognizable as human? No. It's only mildly distracting in Beloved, it mars Tar Baby, but it makes Paradise unbearable, since white characters take up such a large chunk of the book. I don't read awful, awful books to the end--reading time is too precious to waste on crap, unless it's fun crap. I gave Morrison the benefit of the doubt on this one, though, and suffered to the end. Don't make that mistake.

This book is not extremely well-written, but the material is amazing. It covers a sailing race called Around Alone. 16 people set off to sail around the world single-handing 40 - 60 foot very fast boats in extremely gnarly conditions. There are some cool photos, but I felt like there were more interesting images from the race. However it may be unfair to ask someone sailing their boat through 80 foot swells to snap a picture as their boat turns sideways and surfs down a wave.
