A book based on the Bible that was completely accurate. I started reading it not sure if it was going to be actually based on one of the biblical stories, and throughout the novel I had some doubts as to where it was going, but the moment that Jesus came into the picture I said to myself..."BRILLIANT." The way that the characters were laid out and how Marah overcame so much through her life, and to be scorned like that and to come out fighting is inspiring. The mistakes that the characters made and the deaths that occurred at times made me very frustrated, but they all fit well with the overall story. There were only a couple of things that didn't quite add up like how the timeline fit for Ahmal for a bit, but I think that it still was very well written. From what I read the scenes were accurate and there was no mistakes on the history. What I really like was that there was a link to more than one biblical story in the book. I figured out the first story, but then there was another part that was a parable in the bible and then there was one more. The way they all seemed to work as well was brilliant work on the authors part. The Epilogue was intriguing as it completed the story. It finalized it, showing that all the loose ends were tied and there was no more mysteries to be worried about. A book that I would recommend to many people.

If it's possible, I'd say this book is even better than the first. It's really hard to describe, however... Most books are about the destination. You're reading so you can find out what happens next and, finally, what happens in the end. This books wasn't like that. I was reading because... I enjoyed reading it. Reading this book was more about the journey. The prose is absolutely beautiful, just a JOY to be reading. I will add a disclaimer here, however. Some people may be offended by the second half of the book. There is definitely more sex in it than there was in either the first book or the first half of this book itself. That said, it really does fit with the story and make sense. I disagree with some of the ideas that are put forth, but honestly, I think I'm SUPPOSED to. I believe that it's a case of the unreliable narrator being used to great effect. The entire story is being told in Kvothe's own words. However, as legendary a figure as he is, he's NOT perfect, nor is his perspective. The same can be said of different characters with whom he interacts. To say the end of the book filled me with regret wouldn't be entirely accurate. I finished the book and was satisfied with the ending, knowing that the final book will be coming out eventually. I was sad that I was done because I so thoroughly enjoyed it. I was tempted to pick up the first book and begin reading again, simply because I enjoyed the journey so much. I was glad to be done because it is SUCH a thick volume! (997 pages in the HARDBACK!) But in the end, I was glad I had read it. I plan, without a doubt, to pick these books up again and reread them, possibly even before the third volume is announced. I will definitely be rereading them after that announcement. 5 stars, and every one of them genuinely deserved.

I really LOVED this book. Definately undercurrents of Lolita. Probably my favorite Anita Shreve book. I want to read it again sometime.

Great book. Some very interesting places and amazing adventures getting to them and finding out the history behind them. The least traveled road, traveled the best way. Love it.

I liked Tuesdays with Morrie better. I really did not like this book. I feel that just because he had cancer every word does not become wisdom. His wife Jai seems kind of selfish under the circumstances. She seemed more preoccupied with the kids than spending time with her husband before he dies. She was also more worried about the kids getting sick than the family being together as much as possible. He does seem like a really nice guy.

Ok, I'm going to do a standard review for the rest of the Mrs. Murphy books I read, because I really can't think of something smart to say about every single one of them. Actually, it's hard to come up with something smart to say about any one of them, because they are not really smart books. Though, no, that's not true. They aren't trivial as such, they aren't too easy - or, in other words, they don't hurt my brain while I read them. But I think we can all agree that they are also not "great literature", and certainly not intellectually challenging, and as such, they are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. (that and the talking animals, of course) But they are pretty straight-forward crime stories, not overly complicated, but also never boring. They live from the interaction of the characters and the settings, both of which Brown handles brilliantly. That she also manages to make the reader fall in love with the characters, not only the familiar ones, but also the new ones she adds in each book, shows that a master she really is. And so I have no problem admitting that I have read and loved every single one of the Mrs. Murphy books, and I'm convinced that I'll continue to love them for as long as she continues to write them, which I hope will be until forever.

Quite simply, one of the most beautiful fantasy books I've read. As good as the movie is -- and it is, joining _The Princess Bride_ in my all-too-short list of films that can unashamedly live side-by-side with their original written form -- Beagle's prose is what really sets this book apart. A pity I hadn't read this before now, but I'm glad I finally did.

I read this for the first time when I was in Junior High because, you know, Great American Novel and all. I kind of expected it to be a drag. I was surprised how much I liked it, even the "cetology" chapters which I read completely I swear. An early example of my weakness for big, sprawling, epic and flawed novels. I didn't really get all of what was going on - the motives, actions and reactions of Ahab and his crew were often obscure to me - but at that age I knew there was a lot I didn't get because I was too callow to get it. In any case I was hooked. Speared. Read it again, a couple of times, in College. I had grown up a bit and it grew accordingly and exponentially. Haven't read it since, and I need to.

I didn't like Cloud Atlas much at all, but this book is easily one of the most enjoyable books I've read in years.

This is what I am currently reading for book club. I am only a few pages in, but it seems like I will enjoy it.

Klasik Kerouac. Allan Ginsburg tarafından okunan harika bir ses versiyonum da var.
