A very sweet book. Structurally, I enjoyed how Konigsberg wove so many different plot lines together in a way that kids would be able to manage. It's complex without being overwhelming.

Excellent book about Joel's experience with government oversight of his small farm and another confirmation that they need to stay out of farm regulation and let us choose whether we want to buy food from our local farmers or not. The stories about the government inspectors and laws were so unbelievable at times, all I could do was laugh. But sadly these kinds of things put small farmers out of business and ruin their livelihood. His book Holy Cow and Hog Heaven was a great book as well.

I love Jeanette Winterson's fiction, but I have a hopeless passion for this non-fiction book about the place of art in the world and in our society, the function of artists, and what makes art great. As I read it, I marked passage after passage as memorable, beautifully written, and true. This book placed Winterson in my own personal pantheon of Inspirational Saints of Writing.

This is a collection of short stories about women, relationships, independence, travel, and the outdoors. The stories are brief and interesting. Kind of on the cheezy, touch-feely side, but I tend to like that. Also, I think from the very start I just kind of liked the author,... her voice and approach and outlook, and consequently had a greater appreciation for her accounts. A quick read, and a good one to just pick up briefly or at intervals.

Lin is full of good ideas about one of the best albums of its generation. He doesn't quite deliver on the form he promises, or even some of his arguments, but he does introduce interesting theoretical ways of thinking about an album often caught in the grips of a critical mode without rigor. For this, I am grateful to the author. I do wish he had been able to further develop (and maybe come to a persuasive conclusion about) his ideas on the temporal aspect of what makes Kid A a unique aesthetic artifact. At the very least, though, he managed to provide a nice array of quotes that mostly demostrate that Radiohead itself is not to be blamed for much of the more fanatical response that has been associate with Kid A.
