"Galicien, Winter 1809, die französischen Truppen sind übermächtig, das britischen Expeditionsheer befindet sich auf dem Rückzug, eigentlich mehr auf der Flucht. Ihr Ziel ist La Coruña im Nordwesten Spaniens. Das 95th Rifles Regiment soll mit anderen diesen Rückzug decken, dies gelingt aber nur unter Verlusten, Sharp wird mit einer Kompanie abgeschnitten. Sein Plan, nach Süden Richtung Lissabon zu marschieren, wird durch einen spanischen Major durchkreuzt. Dieser hat einen wertvollen Transport nach Santiago de Compostela durchzuführen und benötigt dazu Sharps Hilfe. Diese wird widerwillig gewährt, ein entbehrungsreicher Marsch steht ihnen bevor. Sharp hat nicht nur Zweifel an diesem Vorhaben, er muß sich auch bei seinen Leuten als Offizier und Anführer durchsetzen. Wie ihm dies und anderes gelingt, wird plastisch geschildert. Dieser 6. Band zeigt den Nordwesten Spaniens während der Kämpfe bis zum Abzug der Engländer, der im englischen Sprachraum „Peninsular War“ genannte Befreiungskrieg der Spanier gegen Napoleon beginnt. Sharp ist jetzt auf dem ursprünglichen Serienschauplatz angekommen, die 5 Bände zuvor waren eine „nachgereichte“ Einführung in seine Lebensgeschichte. Hier gewinnt und formt er seine Truppe, die „Rifles“. Wie bei BC gewohnt, ist die Handlung in ein geschichtliches Umfeld gebettet, die Beschreibung Sharps stellt die Schwierigkeit einen „Aufsteigers“ korrekt dar. Leser der Reihe haben den neuen Band wohl sehnsüchtig erwartet, für alle anderen gilt weiterhin der Hinweis, es startet sich mit Band 1 am besten."

I like Gregg Braden's work. I did not feel that I had to read this book cover to cover as most of what's said I've read over and over again in other similar books. It's great if you never read anything about "quantum physics" or want a more scientific approach to "manifesting".

gets off to a slow start, but just when you start wondering who's ghost writing chabon's new novel and are about to give up, you recognize his writing and find yourself hooked. not one of his best, but still worth a read.

This was a totally unexpected delight! After trying The Sunday Philosophy Book Club, and left dissatisfied, this book was a total charmer. McCall-Smith does a lovely job of describing Botswana and some of the local customs and traditions, and the protagonist is clever and self-assured without being arrogant. The book unfolds in somewhat of an 'Encyclopedia Brown' fashion, as the detective solves her cases, but a literary device that might otherwise seem a little juvenile is actually just perfect recounted by the nice lady detective. So glad there are more of these to read!

Crystal Flanagan manages to grow the temperance and bond between the main character and the reader and develop it into a spiritual epiphany. Personally, this book has enlightened me to take a second look at reaffirming my devotion to allowing Christ in my life. I feel fortunately that I was selected as one of the individuals to receive this book through the Good Reads giveaway.
