This is NOT Bridget Jones. While this is still sort of chick lit, it is much more thought provoking than the Bridget Jones novels, and Fielding never loses her characteristic wit while writing about a very serious subject.

A fast and exotic read that combines the lives of a woman from London and a refugee from Nigeria. There are similar themes discussed throughout including the idea that we are all human-some blessed with, as Oprah says with winning the lottery of where we were born, but no matter where born all of us want to feel safe, loved, and live with purpose.

I hadn't heard of this book until I was given it. What a read! I found it gruesome, yet heart warming. I loved the historical and geographical aspect. A fabulous story.

I sent feedback to the author and found out this book was written some time ago so I won't be harsh about some of the initial outdated computer models. I felt it could stand for some further editing. At points it just got too descriptive about process and i felt it needs some punch ups in action. For instance, in the begining, we outline the process the lead scientist uses but after a quick explination, i could have gone without the details of subsequent sessions. Later in the book there are some conversations that ultimately don't seem pertenant. And the assistant to the Lady in the last half seems to have a contrived role. That said, I liked the story. I liked where it went. I felt about 2/3 through (on a podium at CNN) would have been a good stopping point. Leave the last 1/3 for a followup book. I also felt the Epologue / Addendum set roughly 300 years later was not needed. I think it was to give a wrap up for people who like wrap ups. I would have preferred more of a "wait and see..." that would make me crave a followup book.

i loved this book because even though it can be read in an academic context (my case), it's totally accessible to a layperson who is concerned about the way that religion is twisted into a mechanism of hate.

I loved this book and found it difficult to put down. At 562 pages, I read it in only five days. The novel captured my imagination and I was transported into a grand world of an ancient castle in the English countryside, forbidden love, family secrets, madness, and the terribleness of war. The language was beautiful and compelling; the characters were mysterious, eccentric, and charismatic; and the weaving plot was quite involved, jumping from past and present plot lines, 1912 to 1940 to 1992.

Quite possibly the best collection of hard sci-fi stories ever. I've read it twice and I think its about time I read it again.

this book was very sad. it tells a story of a wasted life. the whole time you can see every dangerous turn she takes and you wanna just say, "no!!' don't go that way. but, its too late. she dies anyway.
