This was an extremely sad book because of all the deaths occurring.

So far this book has provided an eye-opening look into corn and its pervasiveness within US culture. I can only imagine where the upcoming chapters on fast food will lead, but I'm guessing it will be charmingly chilling in that special Michael Pollan way.

At last a book by a favorite author other than Parker. I didn't realize until I got the book home that it had been an Oprah Book Club selection. Elizabeth Berg writes for women, with an understanding of women's minds and emotions. This time she follows a woman who has just been asked for a divorce and her adjustment to a new life. Part of the 'adjustment' involves taking in renters, some an asset to her life, some a drain. Favorite quote: 'Extraordinary circumstances make for different kinds of behavior.'

I loved this book. Not only because I love all of Jennifer Echols' books, but because it was raw and real and so touching. *SPOILER* I am a sucker for books about cancer/terminal illness patients-I've read almost all of Lurlene McDaniel's books. This was not as cancer-centric, but the fact it was there really pulled my heartstrings *END SPOILER* Go out and get yourself a copy!

I loved how even though there were three different stories, they were somehow intertwined.

The glorious 80s! Too bad that, as a primary school kid, I only remember them vaguely. Nevertheless, reading The Informers set in motion waves of nostalgia, for Bananarama, The Bangles, Duran Duran, two Star Wars movies… happy days! What would the characters in Ellis’ book say to that? Probably “mellow out”, or something similar. It seems that to remain calm and happy (if you can define “happy” as reaching sexual and drug-induced highs) is their only objective. While reading the book, I kept expecting to find some kind of meaningful cohesion between the different chapters. I thought that I’d spotted a few links, but then again, Ellis could be using the same name for different people, couldn’t he? Continue reading the book & movie review on my blog.

If Melville's plodding, mind-numbing prose didn't get in the way of the story he was trying to tell, he might actually have something here. I've heard that some people have died trying to read Moby Dick and this book makes me understand why. Blah. Took the wind right out of my sails.
