This is an official review from The Romance Reviews Wow, what a book. This is one awesome story. It is sexy, exciting and emotional all rolled into one. The love between the young men is so real and so believable. I first smiled and then laughed. I cried and I got angry. Every emotion in me was brought forth and I won't soon forget the journey I took while reading this book. I have to say Wrestling with Love is an absolutely wonderful story of romance, passion and courage. The journey Derek and Scott began in Wrestling with Desire is continued in this book. Where there was innocent new found love and friendship in the previous book, their relationship in this sequel goes from young adult to erotic romance. And let me just say, once the boys “discovered” each other, it was extremely erotic. Their first true sexual experience together was so well written I was in awe. Derek and Scott have graduated high school and have started College. They are living together in the same dorm room and are now free to explore their relationship to the fullest. Derek wants to be out of the closet and free to live the openly gay lifestyle that he was afraid of doing in high school. Scott however does not want anyone to know he is gay. He is on the wrestling team and is worried he will be shunned or not accepted should anyone find out. This brings quite a bit of tension between the two of them. Derek has joined the LGBT group at college and is making some great friends. He met Tyrell while at the first meeting and was excited, thinking he would have another gay friend to be able to talk things over with. But Tyrell wants a relationship not simple friendship. Derek keeps telling him there will never be a relationship but Tyrell won't accept that fact. Derek told Scott about him and Scott warned him to be careful that Tyrell could be trouble. And he does cause trouble because he won't accept that Derek does not want him. Beck, the boys best friend from high school, makes an appearance towards the end of the story. She was the one who finally forced Tyrell to tell the truth of what he had done to Derek, in front of the people at a dance. She was great. I won't give away what happened, but Tyrell paid the price for his bad behavior. I loved Scott too. I loved his protective nature towards Derek. He sat back and watched how people accepted Derek when the fact he was gay was found out. He decided it was time to stop hiding his sexuality. He protected Derek from Tyrell and got in his own punches. This story shows the true dynamics of growing up gay and the daily struggles that must be dealt with to learn to accept who you really are. This story had the perfect balance of story and emotional development. Even though this was the second book of the series, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the first one. You wouldn't know as much about the characters history, which is great, but I don't feel that you would be totally lost without reading it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a better understanding of the trials and tribulations young gay men must endure to finally feel accepted.
