This book, however fascinating, actually made me like Audrey Hepburn less. I fault the authors stilted logic and over simplistic explanations more than I do the ingenue herself.

A fast paced mystery revealing Sherlock Holmes on his first case as a young adolescent. There's quite a bit character development as the reader gets a look into what shaped the famous detective, his hard family life, and how he decided to fight crime. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Maurice Blanchot would be horrified by it, but I found it self-revealing.
This was the first novel by Stephen Fry that I read and remains my favorite. I've re-read The Liar two times and I'm pretty sure I'll read it again every couple of years. Fry has a way with words that amazes me on practically every page. His characters, though flawed, are easy to care about and I still laugh out loud each time I read this.

If you are new or experienced in the historical romance novel genre, I recommend this smooth, well written and fun read. There is a little of everything in it; bad relatives, kind meddling parents and sweet romance. 3 stars

Usually when a book falls between 2 and 3 stars I round it up to 3 but this book feels like a solid 2.5. I liked parts of it and found many interesting points to ponder in the various chapters but it reads like an anthology of topics, none very deep. When choosing the shelves for this book I hesitate to put it on the parenting shelf because there isn't really a lot of helpful parenting information in it. I thought the first chapter was excellent and gave a good overview of the research around praise and motivation. The chapters on sleep/learning and racism and lying were interesting but the book petered out for me around the middle. I think because the authors were doing more of a summary/overview of research studies, rather than presenting any in depth knowledge about things they were expert at. A lot of the information in the book is based on solid old fashioned common sense...something that might have gotten lost in the shuffle of our over scheduled, over technological society. Its worthwhile to read from the perspective of a stepping off point if you want to get names and references for further study on a particular topic. If I want a refresher on parenting I'll still always go back to someone like Barbara Coloroso.
A wonderful existential romance. I couldn't put this book down. It was my introduction to Murakami's writing.

It is a fascinating book, I must say. A friend of mine told me that I should read this book to get a glimpse of idea of how Stockholm is. It had been 2 years before I finally made my first step in the Capital of Scandinavia. I read this book right before I started my study in Stockholm.

While I love Jane Eyre, Jean Rhys' spinoff novel Wide Sargasso Sea was complete bad read to me. It is considered a modern classic by many, but I really disliked every character in this book to make it enjoyable for me.
