My mom also gave Barnyard Banter to Emmy as a gift. She LOVES this books, and requests it frequently. Barnyard animals along with the noises they make are featured in this book, and throughout the book is Goose, chasing a butterfly. The "pulp paintings" make this book so interesting visually, as well. Better than your typical "farm book!" Another great find for a good toddler read.

An interesting and refreshing take on Arthurian themes, this is another favorite book of mine that--like Elizabeth Moon's works--features a strong heroine who isn't written as just a guy with breasts. Also, this is a rare case in which the front cover actually gives fairly decent idea as to the theme, tone and material of the pages within.

One of the high-water marks of sci-fi. I avoided this book for years, simply because I loved "Ender's Game" so much and knew that any follow up would be a disapointment; when I finally read it (at Mulzer's urging), it was, in fact, even better than "Ender". I remember finishing this book on a plane and sobbing and sobbing, embarassed about weeping over a mass-market paper-back science fiction novel. I don't like it when people say a sci-fi book "trancends the genre", so I'll say it lives up to the potential that science fiction so often falls short of - a strange setting and alien life allows you to see humanity in a new way that would have been impossible without the distance of the premise. This is a book you will want to force upon friends for years.
