I loved the unique premise of this book -- not just about a night circus, but a dangerous game that's played within its imaginative, endless tents -- and the writing reflects the magical, fantastical tone. At times heartbreaking, joyful at others, the plot sometimes moves a bit slowly. The jumps in time were confusing, and the introduction of other players (set in the future) even more so, until everything comes together at long last. Apparently this book is also a movie in development, with the producer of the Harry Potter movies in negotiations to lead. While this would make a visually stunning movie, it'll be interesting to see how it will be accomplished...

The movie stayed fairly true to the book, but the movie was pretty awful, way too long and just irritating. The book was better there was a lot of side stuff going on that added to the story, but the book was still just ok.

This is a great introduction to revolutions worldwide, including condensed descriptions of successful revolutions and a survey of theoretical explanations as to cause and effect. Exactly what I was looking for! Excerpt: "Successful revolutionary coalitions are otherwise opposing, often strongly so. Once a coalition wins state power, it must then work out a plan for rebuilding the state, and at this point extensive bickering normally begins and a struggle ensues over which part of the coalition will be able to determine the future."

This author has a really fun conversational writing style that keeps my attention. He is real and does a great job making connections to support his case. The book set well with me and shows just how important sexuality (not just sex) is, and yet how poorly defined it is in our modern age.

It's a thick text, with long wandering passages; the story is a search for something not explicitly stated, but understood. Percy has a preternatural gift at arranging sentences in a way that requires multiple readings to tease out their underlying purpose. I found the book to be overall a somewhat exhausting read, with moments of accomplished brilliance.
