Read it for class... I liked the book more and more as I went and last chapter has some really great information in it. Although I didn't always like her tone, her experiences were eye-opening and humbling. Very thought provoking.

I have read the taught this book so many times now and every time I do I find something new and wonderful about it. It is of course, a great way to study mid-century American religious history, which is why I teach it, but my secret is that I include it in my classes because I like reading it again and again. Day's commitment to social justice and self sacrifice is obviously inspirational and particularly relevant at the moment, but her articulation of her religious struggles is what keeps me devoted to this text. Even though as a Jew, I can't really relate to her Christ-centered worldview, her writing has so much to offer anyone who has ever wrestled with what God demands of us, and with what we, in turn, demand from Her/Him.

Loved it! She has done it again. I sped through this book because I wanted to get answers to all of the questions that were swirling around in my head. So much intrigue, adventure, and romance. I just adore the characters in this series. Now I can't wait for the next one!

Remarkably boring, for a book containing such a lot of brilliant women and dangerous men.

This book is basically excerpts (or maybe the whole thing) from a diary written by a single woman who just turned 30 about her life. Her main crisis seems to be that she has too many men interested in her (which is a very annoying problem to have, from personal experience!). But, she also has issues with her parents (her mom has just started menopause and is going crazy), and at work. This book was probably my least favorite from these five, since Whitney seemed to be a bit too exaggerated of a character.

**Spoiler Alert** I love the BDB series, but this book was my least fav so far. I found it hard to buy why Cormina loved Phury. They barely spoke to each other for 5 months, but Cormina knows him so well even though she knows hardly anything about him? She thinks he's a great warrior but never read his book at the Sanctuary, only known him since he's been an addict...I will say though that I'm glad Phury got his HEA. I liked the other storylines happening in this book. The author does a great job of switching between lines and weaving them together. It's what keeps me picking up the next one in the series.

I had a hard time getting into this at first. I was frustrated by Joy's youth and idealism and by Pearl's insistence that she could save Joy from herself. Once I got past that, I had a hard time putting it down. I felt like the the ending left me hanging a little bit so I'm wondering if she's going to add another installment.

Another disturbing nonfiction survivor story. It was a quick, very sad read.

I've been meaning to read this book for years, but lost it at some point, and only recently found it again. I love Jane Austen's books, and anything that has to do with them automatically makes it on my to-read list. Sometimes those books are great. Sometimes they are terrible. For the most part, I liked this book. It's not really anything like the other Shannon Hale books I've read. I loved the Goose Girl and it's sequels, and really enjoyed the Actor and the Housewife. This one seemed a little more like a conventional romance. I appreciated the struggle Jane was going through in trying to figure out what she wanted in life. Her whole life seemed to revolve around finding a guy to settle down with, and unfortunately, she had incredible high standards due to her obsession with the heroes from Jane Austen's novels. I'm relieved that she finally figured out that those false ideals aren't what she really wanted, but instead she wanted something real and honest in her life. Once she figured that out, instead of having this ideal guy in the back of her mind to compare every man she met to, she was able to put that aside and focus on the relationship (and man) at hand. I don't actually think Jane changed all that much, to be honest. Yes, she figured out that even Mr. Darcy himself was probably not perfect, and that she couldn't idealize him anymore, but she still wanted a boyfriend with whom she had a serious connection and a real future. She went to Austenland figuring it would be her last hurrah before giving up men for good (yeah, right), and instead (view spoiler) I'm happy for the characters that their lives turned out in a positive way, but it's all a little too neat and tidy to feel completely real, if that makes any sense. Also, I have a big issue with all the talk of spinsters, both from Jane and others. They way they talked about life, it's like they thought that, even in our day in age, if eventually you don't find anyone to marry, you're this subpar being that doesn't matter as much, a spinster. and of course, that only applies to women. The word spinster needs to be taken out of our vocabulary as offensive and mean. There is nothing wrong with choosing to be alone romantically, and it doesn't make one's life less full of love and happiness. Staying single is just as much a valid life-choice as picking between the two guys in the love triangle of your life. All in all, an entertaining read, especially for Austen fans. Just don't expect anything mind blowing.

I could not put this down. I am a sucker for nineteenth-century Japanese historical fiction. It was another character driven book. I cringed at the violent, status-making, agonizing, ritual of foot binding. If you had big feet-you were SOL in good society. Loved the sentiment of having a life-long commitment to a best friend.
