I felt like I was looking at an ugly piece of modern art thinking, "I don't get it, but I feel like I should." Eh.

If not for spending six excruciatingly long weeks covering the minutia of this book, I might have a higher opinion. As it was, I decided Mid 19th Century American authors might not be my cup of tea.

Another amazing book from Mr. Rothfuss. I was so sad to finish it knowing that I will probably have to wait another 2 years for the next book to come out. The 2 years I waited for this book were definitely worth it, so I guess I can wait again... If you enjoyed the first book at all, you will enjoy this one. It is much of the same extremely interesting story of Kvothe and how he came to be the man he is present day. Rothfuss definitely has a certain style to his writing that is refreshing yet has a classic feel, like an old forgotten tale.

The sugar coma is always worth it I have read this book at least ten times and EVERY FREAKING TIME it melts my sugar greedy heart. Every time. I am a sucker for books with kids in them as most people know but that doesn't mean I love all books with kids. This book, however, hits all of my happy happy joy joy buttons. No conflict!!! This is very simply a book about a single dad who wants to raise his babies somewhere great and meets the love of his life in the process. No explosions, no inner struggles, no evil family members, no guns, no...well I think you get it. Nothing but love, baby! Peter spent his life savings to pay a surrogate mother and he ends up with twins. Deciding he wants to raise them in the country he moves and as a result meets Chad who's the sweet, hot park ranger. Insta-love? Yeah, we have some of that up in this here state park! Now, this is classic Sean Michael sex scenes and whatnot but I never care because these guys are adorable in a very old school M/M way from when I started reading this genre back in the early 2000's. They're full of lovey dovey truncated sentences. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Babies!!! We get not one baby but twins. A boy and a girl who are freaking adorable. The book is basically the first year of their lives. I love that they aren't just decorative characters. This is really a book about the family as a whole. Peter, Chad, and the kids are building something and it's awesomely portrayed. Sean Michael does uncomplicated feel good family books so well and this one, along with Daddy Daddy and Me, is one of the best. So, I recommend this book to anyone who's yearning for some cheesy but really sweet writing. This book is definitely not one for everyone, so really read the reviews before you buy is what I'd advise. Me? I love it. No shame in my game. I LOVE it.

Not exactly what I was expecting in terms of quality, considering the ratings it has received here. Definitely a little disappointed, as this felt very mediocre in terms of plot and characterization. Sabriel herself is not a terrible character, but things moved maybe slightly too fast to really let much of anything sink in. The world is not so much a fully fleshed-out entity as it is a series of thinly drawn stereotypical locales. Abhorsen's house was interesting, yet it was visited for such a short time it felt almost wasted. The trips into Death also felt quite repetitive towards the end until she finally ventured deeper. Despite all this though, it does hold your attention while reading it. That's about as much good as I can really say about it. Like someone else has mentioned, this probably felt fresher when it came out, but it for one reason or another hasn't aged all that well. Can't really say I'm eager to pick up the later books in the series.

How can you not love a book where the characters are always saying, "my dear sweet little Fanny"?

This book was just ok. I totally agree with where the author is coming from, I just didn't like the medium he chose to get his message across. The author tried to do something between writing a scientific essay or paper and telling a story, and I wasn't feelin it. There wasn't the character development or compelling plot that you usually find in a novel OR the brevity and clarity of a paper or essay.

I've said it before: Margaret Johnson-Hodge has the unique authorly ability to present insights on every page about life, love, and the intersection of both. To call her writing poetic--which I've done in the past--is almost certainly an understatement. Her words flow with such ease and beauty they aren't easy to categorize. Here we have the story of Erica Lorraine Simpson, a recent widow. The death of a loved one is a traumatic experience, and we get a front row seat view of the sadness, and loneliness, and feelings of self-doubt and despair that ripple through this experience. It is a story with laugh-out-loud moments (Sylvester) and heartwrenching moments (Kent walking in on his mother in the midst of her getting her groove back). Once I started reading (a long while coming, as I've had the Kindle edition for some time) I simply couldn't stop. My usual reading faves are crime thrillers and when I encounter a good one I read to get to the end. With IN SEARCH OF TENNESSEE SUNSHINE I read to be illuminated, all the while wishing it would never end. From TRUE LIES and BUTTERSCOTCH BLUES to now, Margaret Johnson-Hodge has never let me down as a reader. Any money spent on one of her tales is money well spent. She continues to be a favorite of mine. Well done!

In this third installment of The Annals of the Western Shore, Ursula K. LeGuin unsparingly portrays a young man's struggle to escape slavery and find his own road to freedom in a meticulously constructed and utterly convincing imaginary world. Richly appointed and masterfully told. A breathtaking read.

This book was my introduction to Linda Lee Chaikin and I loved it. The mystery and romance were woven together beautifully. Will have to read this series again very soon.
