A great followup to the first book. I really enjoyed reading it and the ending leaves you hanging for the third book. Can't wait for it to come out next month!

One of many books I cannot read in public due to uncontrollable laughter.

I loved the parts where she talks about "her girls." However she lost me in her analysis of the various authors. Overall, an enjoyable and enlightening read.

I read this about thirty years ago when I was a teenager. I do not think I could read it today. It would scare the heck out of me. I read it several times because I just could not get my mind around the fact that people were brutally murdered for no reason. Finally, I just had to accept the reason that they were murdered was because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The stories in the book are true, violent, and graphic, and some of them have stayed with me through out the years.

A short book of less than 200 pages. While it reads more like four separate short stories very loosely connected, each story is a concisely written and holds your attention. In this small set of pages Lalami raises many social issues facing Morocco in a subtle, believable way.

Humboldt's Gift was a very good, if dense, novel. It was particularly interesting knowing that he pretty much taught Philip Roth how to write novels; you can see what Roth picked up from him, and what Roth added (or, as one curmudgeon I know pointed out, subtracted). The philosophical passages bogged me down at times, but that may have been more my fault than the author's.

Oh wow!! I think this book was worth the wait ... it needed me to get bored with other books so when this book came along I would be so engrossed with it, that the lack of reading drought I've been having is no longer!! This is also the first book that made me cry in spots ... in a long time. It is emotional in spots and suspenseful in others. I just love it. Now I am on the second book and cannot wait to read more of it!

Ok first I knew this wasn't the Simpsons movie and was truly Stephen King by the descriptive horror the I've come to love. This was my summer read and it did last all summer. Very long book but glad I read it and recommend to any King fan

A beautifully handled exploration of grief. It was almost uncomfortable at times, as if I were eavesdropping on Didion's therapy sessions, but ultimately rewarding in its candor. I thank Didion for being so frank and honest about her "irrational" wishes, reactions and behavior in the year after her husband's death. When she breaks down the intellectual snubbing of self-pity and instead embraces all the levels of her grief is an exceptional moment. If only every book were this "raw."
