Read for the second time. It's taken me a little time to read through this mainly as I was listening/reading other books. It's an interesting book to read. I love the fact that Max gets his own book as he features in previous books and comes across as a lovely strong character. Sophie is an interesting character - very flawed and you can understand why. I think the best thing is that you get to see some of the other characters from previous books. Plus the long story arc continues about what is going to happen to the Psy and what they are going through.

i dont like this book right now. i am laboring through it. i "finished" it today. really i skipped the last few stories, because it was so bad. it might have been okay if the stories were organized. as it was, the stories were all broken up and randomly placed around the book. so you would read a few pages of one story and then switch to a different story that you had been reading 50 pages ago. it was annoying and really hurt being able to get into any story of the book. the few that were all together were pretty bad. the story i did like was "the vine" and i read all of those "chapters" and skipped the rest at the end.

My all-time favorite SK book...I love how he starts the story completely zoomed out. You see one character completely alone...then another...then another. And slowly they come together. The web he weaves is intricate. I also loved how much thinking he had to do about how you would go about re-forming a society...how do you secure all the things people need to live and by that I don't just mean food and heat but justice and trust.
