A Nightmare On Elm Street (Elm Sokağında Kabus) TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

This book is exactly what it claims to be: a manual describing how to make a DV film from start to finish. Excellent. While it might go into too much beginning-level detail for experienced filmmakers, it is a perfect beginning guide for those who are unfamiliar with digital video production, or even unfamiliar with either of the commonly used DV editing suites (Adobe After Effects or Final Cut Pro). Aronson spends plenty of time on each of the topics, ranging from planning a shoot, to lighting, to editing, to sound design, to post-production. He offers tips, advice and websites that will aid an aspiring filmmaker in their endeavor. Also very helpful is the included DVD that allows the reader to follow along with the examples in the book, provided the reader has either After Effects or Final Cut Pro installed on their machine. If you do not have the program installed on your computer, the disc is useless. This does not negate the enormous amount of helpful knowledge contained in the book. I enjoyed this text very much and I expect to refer to it many times in the future. I do with that Aronson would have spent more time talking about how to capture certain effects or moods. There is a HUGE amount of technical advice and discussion, but very little artistic discussion. This didn't bother me because I was looking for technical advice, but this valuable text would be even MORE valuable with a little more artistic advice added to it. Overall, an excellent resource for the beginning DV filmmaker. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

This was a really interesting book. There were things I liked and things I didn't, but overall I really liked it. First, I have to say that I loved the character of Margaret. I don't know if the reader is supposed to, but I did. She was fabulous even in all of her drunken ridiculousness. I had a hard time imagining Margaret existing in 1911, but maybe she is able to because Witless Bay is so remote. I'm not sure, but I loved her nonetheless. Fabian, most times I wanted to strangle. I thought the only decision he really made in the entire book was to kill Botho August, and I'm not even sure that was a decision. Maybe more a crime of passion. I kind of reluctantly liked him. I really thought the setting was amazing; I felt like I lived in Witless Bay. And the community interaction was great, too. There were actually quite a few characters mentioned -- a good portion of the town -- but I felt like they were all unique individuals, and important to the story in their own way. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the flow of the book. For the life of me I cannot figure out how Norman wrote it; it is not linear at all. It goes back and forth in time, sometimes without any warning, and changes topics just as quickly. Somehow I didn't understand what one paragraph had to do with the one that came before it. But then again, the narrator was closest to Fabian, and that seemed to be Fabian. It didn't make for a smooth read, though.
