This book is exactly what it claims to be: a manual describing how to make a DV film from start to finish. Excellent. While it might go into too much beginning-level detail for experienced filmmakers, it is a perfect beginning guide for those who are unfamiliar with digital video production, or even unfamiliar with either of the commonly used DV editing suites (Adobe After Effects or Final Cut Pro). Aronson spends plenty of time on each of the topics, ranging from planning a shoot, to lighting, to editing, to sound design, to post-production. He offers tips, advice and websites that will aid an aspiring filmmaker in their endeavor. Also very helpful is the included DVD that allows the reader to follow along with the examples in the book, provided the reader has either After Effects or Final Cut Pro installed on their machine. If you do not have the program installed on your computer, the disc is useless. This does not negate the enormous amount of helpful knowledge contained in the book. I enjoyed this text very much and I expect to refer to it many times in the future. I do with that Aronson would have spent more time talking about how to capture certain effects or moods. There is a HUGE amount of technical advice and discussion, but very little artistic discussion. This didn't bother me because I was looking for technical advice, but this valuable text would be even MORE valuable with a little more artistic advice added to it. Overall, an excellent resource for the beginning DV filmmaker. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

This was a really interesting book. There were things I liked and things I didn't, but overall I really liked it. First, I have to say that I loved the character of Margaret. I don't know if the reader is supposed to, but I did. She was fabulous even in all of her drunken ridiculousness. I had a hard time imagining Margaret existing in 1911, but maybe she is able to because Witless Bay is so remote. I'm not sure, but I loved her nonetheless. Fabian, most times I wanted to strangle. I thought the only decision he really made in the entire book was to kill Botho August, and I'm not even sure that was a decision. Maybe more a crime of passion. I kind of reluctantly liked him. I really thought the setting was amazing; I felt like I lived in Witless Bay. And the community interaction was great, too. There were actually quite a few characters mentioned -- a good portion of the town -- but I felt like they were all unique individuals, and important to the story in their own way. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the flow of the book. For the life of me I cannot figure out how Norman wrote it; it is not linear at all. It goes back and forth in time, sometimes without any warning, and changes topics just as quickly. Somehow I didn't understand what one paragraph had to do with the one that came before it. But then again, the narrator was closest to Fabian, and that seemed to be Fabian. It didn't make for a smooth read, though.

For years I couldn't bring myself to read this sequel to Anne of Green Gables because I feel like the author pared down her deliciously detailed writing style. However, last year when I read it I loved it. It's an easy read, and it's fun to follow the love story between Anne and Gilbert.

I've thoroughly skimmed through this. I wanted to get a better idea of the sights, sounds, and social milieu of early 20th century Paris for my reading of In Search of Lost Time (currently on vol. 2!)and this book does an admirable job of doing that, even on though I've only read about a third of it and spend/spent most of my time looking at the pictures and taking in a sample of 1920's Parisian fashion and architecture, as well as the people who influenced Proust's characters. Definitely worth your time if you want to enjoy the delicately brutal and fascinating world of In Search of Lost Time.

I don't so much dislike this book as just really hate one particular story, Straight Fiction, that is in it. It posits a world where everyone is gay, but uses typical gay stereotypes; if everyone were gay, gays would be totally different, because a lot of gay behaviour comes from being a minority. It just seemed like a poorly planned aspect of an admirable thought experiment.

I never would have bought this book, but my friend gave it to me as a gift. Her brother was a schizophrenic. It was a great book, but also a real insight into what it is like to have a family member with a severe mental illness.

I really enjoyed this book. (Please note that I have already read the others in the series). I enjoyed see the characters from her prior books come to the "rescue". The action was good, the development of the story was good, the ending was good. I would recommend this to anybody following in the series, but I think that if you have not already read the rest of the books prior you might not enjoy this book as well.

Minions unite! Vlad is back and now in the tenth grade. Fans of this series won't be disappointed. Vlad should be happy. The girl of his dreams, Meredith, is his girlfriend. Henry is his best friend. And Snelgrove, his middle school principal, is no longer in his life. Well, apparently some things do change when you get older. One thing is his uncle Otis has been gone for a long time. Vlad is having terrible nightmares and Henry is acting funny by not wanting to hang with him like he used to. Plus along with his hormones, another, scarier urge is taking over. One he refuses to succumb to. I really enjoyed this third story of THE CHRONICLES OF VLADIMIR TOD. Vlad is now in the tenth grade where normal teens are struggling with things like grades, girls, fitting in, and hormones. And Vlad, well, he's not the normal teen. Brewer does a great job of showing the angst and conflict of a teen vampire who just wants to be normal. The tension builds to an action packed meeting at Stokerton, where Vlad learns some startling secrets about himself and those around him. Fans of vampire tales will love this series told in
