John Grisham did a great job with his first book for kids. It had a lot of the Grisham feel, but was definitely written for a younger audience. It lacked some of the Grisham intensity (of course), but it still told a suspenseful story, and was very appropriate for the target audience. Theodore Boone is the thirteen-year-old only child of two attorneys. He is fascinated by the legal system, and dreams of being either a lawyer or a judge when he grows up. It's not uncommon for Theo's classmates to come to him for legal advice, and he enjoys helping people with their legal problems. That is, he enjoyed it until he was told information crucial to a murder trial. He's sworn to secrecy, but keeping that promise might mean that a guilty man goes free. Not only will readers get a good story with great characters, but they can learn (in layman's terms) about trials, bankruptcy, foreclosure, etc. I just learned that there is a second Theodore Boone book out. I'm excited to see how Boone's adventures continue.

Not at all impressed with this book. I should really just give it one star. I think Marguerite Duras was drunk when she wrote it. It's about as bearable as a hangover.

This is the book that I always recommend when someone asks that "Know a good book?" question. I've never encountered the reader who doubled as a hater.

I enjoyed the nail-biting-don't-want-to-put-the-book-down suspense. Well-written with great insight into the characters' personalities. I was a bit disappointed with the ending as it left quite a few issues unresolved & seemed like the author just wanted to end it! Hopefully this means a sequel!

One of the few books that wasn't much better than its movie adaptation. I think that given the subject matter, this could have been a lot better, but the writing style never quite draws you in.

A sober (sometimes it's too sober and becomes as boring as real science!) expose of the French tradition of obscurantism. The whole story began when Alan Sokal tricked a post-modern magazine into publishing a nonsensical article...

Terrific

My first "meeting" with Neil Davis was watching, on television, his death on the streets of Bangkok during one of those pathetic little coups that occasionally happened in that land of smiles, the camera rolling, rolling on a story that even at the last he couldn't abandon. I then met him again in Tim Bowden's excellent book. Davis did indeed live a "crowded life" and I can never hear the words of that poem without thinking of him, a person whose friend I would wish to have been.

This book does not seem to own the tragic end of normal Hedayat books, seems to be too daily at the first glance, which is and is not at the same time. It is a deeper look at the facts of the persian society, facts, which do not seem to have really changed since his time. And does also posess a dark humor.
