This is a classic in Christian theology. Reading with a group was a great way to get more out of it. I like it because Packer is thorough in his review of what we know about God from the Bible and frankly confronts those aspects of God's character that we want to ignore, and those we re-interpret for our own comfort. Thought-provoking!

I'm still plugging away at this, and have been for a few months now. Can't seem to get motivated "into" it.

The ONLY reason I kept reading this was because it was for my book club. Some parts were interesting, but most weren't. Let's face it. It's the story of a 14 year old's diary. It is just as inane as you'd expect from a 14 year old who has a whole three lines to write on each day for 5 years.

Why, yes, I did finish this on New Year's Eve. It was awesome and made for an excellent, relaxing evening. This story continued Kitty and Jeff's romance. There was more emotion, lots of twists I didn't see coming, and some walk in characters that I really liked. It was wonderful. Loved it! Incidentally, I've already bought the next six books and have started Alien in the Family already. Yes, it is still New Year's Eve...for a few more hours. But I'd rather read this series than go out. Call me a geek.

Enjoyable for me but I think only a real book lover would want to read it. Very interesting to learn what a person who is in the "Book World" feels about books. I agreed and disagreed with some of her observations.

In this book you live and suffer with several generations of the Hawthorne family, as they battle with persecution, exile and execution, that ends in a modern day massacre. This travesty is created and led by one man who has the power to motivate the masses to condemn what they didn't understand. It really makes you wonder how far people will truly go to prove that their religion is the best. Since the very beginning of time, the human race has tried to interpret, enforce and follow Gods law. They have instead, distorted, abused, and, disobeyed it for their own spiritual gain. This horrible reality has not improved at all over the centuries even though we claim to be more civilized. For some reason people are driven to exterminate anything that they don't understand in the name of their religion even if innocent lives are harmed in the process. This book reminds us that faith can be a very powerful thing for both good and evil and how you use that faith defines you as a person. I think that this book is well worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, romance, and historical fiction. I received this Pre-reader copy from the author.

Reading pride and prejudice is like travelling to the past where courtship takes place in reading rooms, balls and long visits to other's homes. it may be a bit boring for some, but if you do get to the end you will have finished reading a beautifully detailed painting.

Awesome book. Insight into an autistic person in the future who is facing change. Insight into questions about who we are and what makes us who we are. A fast read, but a great read. Everyone should read it

The author is a well-known graphic designer who has produced some of the most recognized and unusual book jackets in contemporary fiction (i.e. Jurassic Park). His work is said to transform a book from a medium for written words to a thing in itself, an 'object of art, as well as literature.' In his own book, Kidd continues to blur the line between art and words. The Cheese Monkeys follows an art student through the first year of state university. Anyone who has endured a freshman year at any college will identify and laugh out loud at his encounters with students, faculty, and bureaucracy. It is deep and funny. Some say it is an argument for a certain philosophical interpretation of graphic art. (Message over Form?) Of course, that discussion is both over my head, and beyond any field of study I ever endured. I just think it is a fantastic, fascinating look into academia, art, and the off-beat people usually found in both. Many reviewers don't care for the spiraling, out-of-control ending. I actually think it might be central to the book. Anyone who has pulled an 'all-nighter' (or two) may identify with swirl of real, and perhaps imagined, events leading to the crash ending. The build-up of tensions throughout the book are not unlike the high-intensity days and weeks of cramming and sleepless nights before the end of the term - sometimes ending well, sometimes not, but almost always filled with self-induced melodrama, angst, and a feeling that things will never be 'normal' again. (Or maybe I just spent too long in school ;)) I know after reading this book, I will never look at commercial art or advertising images the same way ever again!

Read Aloud--1st & 2nd; Read before we started our inventor research. Great nonfiction for a short read aloud. The kids loved it!
