I'm kind of embarrassed that I, a comic enthusiast par excellence, hadn't read this staple of graphic literature yet, but there you go. Like a wannabe, I bought 300 and read it in anticipation of the movie. I thought it was...OK. Honestly, I really just don't like Frank Miller that much. He has a unique visual style, and he sticks to it, which is to his credit, but I have a hard time getting over the fact that he's just not that talented an illustrator. I have few other qualms, though. The story, obviously, is extremely solid, and the dialog among the characters does a good job of expressing the Spartans' famous Laconic wit. This is one of the major events in the modern Greek creation story and consciousness, and Miller does a pretty good job of letting us know that we're witness to something historic. Luckily, 300 can be read in one sitting so, if you're like me, the lack of quality illustration won't drive you that crazy.

Early on you realize this book is not about getting rid of the horns. 20th Century Ghosts is still better than this, but it's a far cry better than Heart Shaped Box.

This was such an interesting read. This mom is without a doubt completely neurotic and most of her parenting practices border on emotional abuse. However, what the media failed to mention is her realization that she needed to back off and parent differently with her second daughter. Some good takeaways, like not have too low of expectations for my kids, not giving up when things get hard, etc. But really, I would rather have a close, loving, and open relationship with my kids then have them be a concert pianist who plays at Carnegie Hall at age 16. Seriously, where does the kid have to go but down from there anyway?

The series has a good plot/storyline, however the writing isn't that great. And it can have overbearing Christian tones to it at times. Overall, the series is okay - nothing great not the worst.

Drags a little in places, but overall an interesting account. Good stuff about the cultural/religious conflicts in Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Strangely sympathetic portrayal of Mary Bono.
