The heroine Tasha is a rather outspoken paediatrician who, after a showdown with her boss, finds herself out of work. Her brother Josh offers her the chance to care for a friend of his while she is looking for another job. When Tasha finds out the patient is Prince Alessandro, the hero, she is reluctant but agrees. Tasha and Alessandro share a history; when he had visited her brother many years back Tasha had developed a huge crush on him, but he turned down her advances and she was left feeling humiliated. Tasha decides to use his injury to her advantage and make him squirm. Until they meet again and she realises that she is still very attracted to him. Alessandro is impatient and sick of his injury causing him to rest all the time, which has lead to him dwelling on the new pressures in his life as well as his many regrets. Having Tash care for him isn't helping either, as not only does he regret how much he hurt her in the past but also fiercely desires her. Meanwhile, two other characters, Josh and Megan, are trying to build a relationship with each other despite their shared past hurts. I really loved Tasha and Alessandro's story, I actually couldn't put this book down. I was sceptical at first as I have never really enjoyed Medical's before, but this one really proved me wrong. I loved how Alessandro's character had a wonderful 'normal person' quality despite his status as a prince, it definitely makes him more believable. Tasha is a brilliant heroine; feisty, intelligent, independent and sensitive all at the same time. Sarah Morgan has a real talent when it comes to writing interesting and believable characters. The love-story is written beautifully, I couldn't help but smile about it. The book is part of the 'St Piran's' mini-series, however the book does stand alone fine (I haven't read any of the others). But, there is a sub plot of Josh and Megan's story, which as I understand runs through all of the books in the series. This sub plot is absolutely heartbreaking, it is left unfinished though and I am so intrigued that I will be looking out for future books with their story. This was a good introduction to some basic rules of teaching-- don't try to be your students' friend, don't stand at the board and lecture, don't assume the worst just because a kid has his head down, don't show up on your student's doorstep wanting to chat (you hear that, Michelle Pfeiffer?), etc. The wisdom in the book comes from interviews with a bunch of high schoolers from California, Rhode Island, and New York, and about half of them taught at or attended Summerbridge/Breakthrough Collaborative programs, so they're familiar with progressive educational strategies. (Also, weirdly, I know one of the girls in the book, but I didn't know that until I started reading it.) There's an introduction by Lisa Delpit, and Ted Sizer and Deb Meier give back-cover blurbs, so you know it can pretty much be trusted. That said, I had already heard most of the things in the book, save for some stuff about English language learners. This book would be more valuable to someone with no classroom experience, although there are some useful worksheets, surveys, and other resources that could help a variety of beginning teachers. A quick read. Recommended.

Heyer's send-up of the gothic noevel. Not her strongest, but pleasant.

A single day in Paris changes the lives of three Americans as they each set off to explore the city with a French tutor, learning about language, love, and loss as their lives intersect in surprising ways. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that I would describe as evocatively luscious and brimming with sexual tension. I was completely engulfed with the characters and their parallel stories. I’ve read reviews on this book that call French Lessons “great summer reading”-but Sussman is too fine of a writer to be linked to the pop-culture genre of books geared toward woman better known as chick-lit or beach reading. Yes, the content is light, but the writing is not; it is elegant and engaging.

FINALLY, a book that made me love reading again. The kids had sandwiches for dinner so I keep reading. The only complaint I have is that it wasn't longer, and that the author doesn't have 15 more books out there for me to read. I loved it and highly recommend it. Wonderful!

I actually like this more than The Unbearable Lightness of Being, even though I loved that as well. I just love Kundera's characters. They're so real and great and you love and hate all of them.
