I read this because I couldn't find a decent history book on Luxembourg very easily. This had all the pictorial charm of the Eyewitness books for kids, with handy-dandy travel info. Since most of Luxembourg is really old buildings or EU headquarters, I did get a sense of the country's history. It also looks really pretty and has great hiking trails. Two questions: How do I get my hands on "Beaufort's noted black currant liqueur, Cassero" and why are most of Luxembourg's "dry, fresh" white wines with "little of the cloying fruitiness sometimes associated with northern white wines" sold in Belgium and Germany? Thirsty American over here, people!

I've seen both film versions of this book but have never read the actual book until today. Somehow, through all the beautiful visual imagery and engaging songs of the films, I've always missed the point to this book. It's really an intricate fable teaching children the rewards of virtue and vice.

I read the Patricia Briggs short story which was a little too short. It introduces Anna and Charles, werewolves that share a world with Mercy Thompson from her other series. I enjoyed it and am now enjoying reading the first full length book about Anna and Charles.

I'm having a tough time giving this one a rating because of a few offensive details from the book. First, there's this line: "Her voice sounds irritated and impatient like some of Dad's tenured colleagues at school who Dad says are just counting the days till retirement." (89) There goes any inclination I might have had to recommend this book to my students. Not that I do that sort of thing, given that I'm a tenured professor and all. I'm simply too busy counting the days until I retire to do much else. In fact, I can't even attend to the rest of this review. I guess I've just stumbled upon one of my book deal breakers: ignorant anti-teacher/tenure sentiments. Shame, because despite rampant cliches and flat characters, the plot was unique enough to keep me reading to the end.

Richelle Mead writes fantastic characters. If you like character focused stories you will like her work.

It reads as if it's a semi-autobiographical, science fiction memoir. His voice is as distinct as Toni Morrison and his story is just as captivating.

** spoiler alert ** This book was a bit of an upset, for me. I love the character Lily, very much. And I sincerely love that she is furthering her relationship with Jack, her love interest, and is able to hang in there and keep this new relationship afloat, without trying to screw it up (consciously or unconsciously) on purpose. I love that Lily loves Jack. But these new developments in the relationship, and the series, are completely unlike anything the characters would do, in my opinion. I was left wondering WHY. Then to have her act as she did in this novel seemed.... kinda like the author was taking massive leaps and bounds in her recovery from the past. I don't agree with these changes, I don't think this character, having gone through The Bad Thing, would have done these things, and I was rather put off at the novel because of it all. Lily would NOT have gone off and married Jack, out of the blue. She suffered from a HUGE inability to have a real relationship, much less taken a giant commitment like this - she is pretty much a commitment-phobe, because of the rape and abuse in the past. Then the author has the characters say... "well we got married a month ago...." and didn't even write about it?? Or anything? man, that's cruel. The novel seemed to be rather like a car out of control. Then Lily starts having health problems... and finds out she's pregnant?? that's CRAP. There is no way these newly wedded couple can handle something like that without wanting to at least run away and hide. but they do, AND solve a murder or two, in the process of her recuperation from losing the baby. A MISCARRIAGE??? Right after getting an implant to stop unwanted pregnancies? And they are SAD they lost it......? I am at a loss. this doesn't seem like the same series it was, in the past three books. I don't know who these people are, anymore. I must say, having BOTH the couple in question be the Bad Guys, was just the topping on the confusion-cake that is this novel. I was beyond confused, and left feeling very very disappointed and lost. I sincerely hope this problem wasn't caused by the author's writing of three different series at the same time. I am taking a break from them all, and the author, for a while.

Astonishingly well-researched and very convincing history of the Midway Battle, written from the Japanese perspective. One of the more meticulous battle narratives I've read.

I read this a loong time ago, liked it alot, and subsequently loaned it to someone and never got it back, which made me sad. Then I recently found a copy on sale at a local book store and re-read it and still liked it alot..tho sadly they changed the cover and I don't like it as well :-(...luckily the default Goodreads cover is the original, which makes me happy, cuz it's prettier.
