The main thing that I loved about this book was The Pit. A slightly lowered area of the classroom that contained only 5 desks. Every year, no matter who was assigned to sit there, whoever they might be, they united to heap sarcasm and insults on the rest of the room. A subplot at best, but Korman always has a way of making school seem just that little bit more fascinating than it ever was. And the rest of the book is about kids putting on a radio show about their school. Funny. But the Pit is definitely the highlight. Oh, and Fuzzy and Puffy, of course.

A Most Unsuitable Match by author Stephanie Grace Whitson, captured my attention from the very first line. It was hard to put down after that. Miss Fannie Rousseau is young, impulsive, spoiled, and unfortunately all alone in the world, save for her maid, Hannah. After the death of her mother, she finds some mysterious letters from an aunt she never knew existed. Determined to find her only living relative, she sets off for the wilds of Montana. Mr. Samuel Beck is also on a mission, to find his missing sister. Together Fannie and Samuel meet aboard a steamboat, never realizing how much they will need each other. I am a sucker for historical romances and this one met all my expectations. The characters were well defined and the author described the settings so well, I felt like I was there. Only one thing left me feeling slightly unfulfilled and that was in regards to the villain of the piece. I can't tell you who that was, or I'll spoil it for you, but suffice it to say, his character could have made a lot of trouble for Fannie and the threat always seemed to be lurking, but it never really materialized. In the end, Fannie was able to be rid of him with a letter. However, there was enough going on in the novel to overlook this small part of it and it really doesn't detract from the novel, it just makes you wonder what "could have been". Despite that, I give this novel a rousing 5 out of 5 stars! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Dr. Davie visits a women's school and while there, he stumbles on a sort of mystery. The school produces a language learning course that is tape recorded and mailed out. But some of the tapes have a different message. While he's puzzling over what this might mean, he visits his London club. The next day, a fellow club member is murdered. This is a second in a brief series written in the 60-70s, and has a similar feel to some of its contemporaries. Not quite as outlandish as Gideon Fell and not as highbrow as Michael Innes, these books are still a great find for mystery fans who enjoy the Golden Age of mystery. I don't want to give too much away, but let me say that Davie's interest in opera and his academic background help him get to the bottom of this case just in time to prevent becoming a victim himself. I only gave it 3 stars because it was a bit of a stretch, and the plot seemed a little disconnected in places, but I would really round it up to 3.5 stars if I could.

I'm not a big fan of Lamott's fiction, but I think this is her best novel.

This was a fast read in which the author learned how to work through her difficult past by adopting a horse that had been abused. By caring for this horse and observing its' spirit, S. Richards life was changed. This horse helped her accomplish her life-long goal--to be a published writer. I am looking forward to reading her next book, Chosen Forever.

Before picking up this book, I'd heard some general buzz and a quick high level overview of the plot…an orphan boy lives "in the walls" of a Paris train station fixing the clocks and trying to fix up a little robotic man. That was all I knew. I finally picked the book up at the bookstore and my initial reaction was "Wow…this is big." The book weighs in at over 500 pages. Knowing this was a children's book, this seemed a little daunting to me. What I didn't yet realize was that about half of the pages were filled with illustrations. This book is split about 50/50 between illustration and text. The illustrations aren't just supplements to the text, but rather actually tell parts of the story. Thus the book is part novel, part picture book / graphic novel. I should also add that the illustrations are stunning and truly add to the book. I absolutely LOVED this book. As I read, I found myself not wanting to put it down. And even before I had finished, I found myself gushing praise and recommending it to people. In the same way that this book straddles formats, I find myself having a hard time categorizing exactly what makes this book so enjoyable to me. From a high level, the story is cute and entertaining but not so amazing or remarkable to warrant outrageous praise in itself. The art is fabulous. It shows great talent and certainly helps to invoke emotion. What stuck with me is the complex combination of beautiful images, simple yet lovely language, and a cute, emotional story. The story and writing is humorous, fun and laced with intrigue and adventure. The art allows for both fast paced scenes of action and slower scenes charged with tension, love or other emotions. I had a lot of fun bounding around the train station with Hugo or following him through the streets of Paris. Without adding any spoilers, I must say that I absolutely loved the larger story being told here and the way it all came together. The meta-story is further exemplified and enhanced by the artistic style and layout of the book in such a way that it made the larger story all the more real. In the end, I felt like this book was an EXPERIENCE rather than just a book. I came away with a sense of awe and wonder that I haven't felt from a book in a long time. The art and the text wove an intricate spell that truly pulled me into the book and made everything seem real and amazing. I will admit that this book will not be for everyone and certainly won't touch everyone in the same way that it touched me. If you are willing to let yourself go and be immersed in a children's book, you should enjoy this. If you're willing to remember the feelings and sensations of childhood, you may just find those emotions bubbling to the surface as you turn the pages here. I whole-heartedly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ***** 5 out of 5 stars

ok i'm going to keep it short bc i've read some looong reviews that pretty much everything has been said. I loved Peeta! In the first, I was leaning more towards Gale, but then I thought he doesn't deserve Katniss. I mean all those years around her and he never mentioned anything?!? In CF, I was expecting Peeta to be captured by the Capitol(they needed leverage against Kat). Of course I was expecting torture but i didn't think they would brainwash him--tainting his noble soul. I was so heartbroken. I cried in the end when i finally realized he really wasn't going to be the same. I felt like the it was slow; sometimes i would have to make myself keep reading just to get to the parts with Peeta. And the ending felt like it was rushed. I had to go back bc I was like what?! Finnick died? And everyone just took it in stride--i figured Annie would really go crazy after the news. Disappointing overall but still an amazing series.
