Father of the Year is the second novel by Glenn Puit, who happens to be aptly penned as the "King of True Crime", a well-deserved title. Father of the Year tells the story of Bill Rundle, a con man who murdered his wife and discarded her corpse on the side of the road. Rundle also killed his mother in addition to multiple other sick and heinous crimes. Rundle once won the Father of the Year award after his son praised him in a school assignment but ironically, this same Las Vegas resident became more infamous after his ugly side was revealed to the public. Glenn Puit is my new favorite true crime author next to Jack Olsen, for many reasons. First, Puit writes a perfect introduction to the crimes in his novels without revealing too many details. Although it's a non-fiction account usually thoroughly explained in the book's synopsis or on the back cover, I really love when I'm kept in suspense. It bothers me when true crime authors put all the gruesome details in the first chapter and then in chapter two we're brought all the way back to when the killer emerges from his mother's womb and we trudge through boring details about their troubled childhood and so on and so on... However, Glenn Puit leaves us curious and rapt throughout the entirety of the novel, building up to the crimes, which is great! This is perfect for readers like myself who buy books based on the author and not the title or the synopsis. I'm definitely reading more of Puit's work in the future regardless of what the book is about, and this is a sign meaning you've got a good author on your hands. Lastly, Puit has an admirable blunt, no-nonsense style when describing his killers. Some authors will take the serious, politically-correct approach and just state facts without becoming emotional or opinionated, which oftentimes reads like a stiff newspaper. Puit's hatred for Rundle is apparent throughout his writing and why shouldn't it be? Who cares? Rundle is a scumbag and everything Puit says is easy to agree with. Antonia Fraser rarely disappoints and this book is no exception. This is a nice compliment to the letters of Madame Sevigne, because until now I really could not understand quite the "fervor" of Madame' S's letters to her daughter regarding the rising stars and the fading has beens that were gracing or exiting Louis XIV's bed. All is now explained. And yes, we are absolutely indulging in some self-admitted wish fulfillment here, because in the end it is the bookworm, the studious one, the intelligent woman who ends up being the "wife" of Louis XIV in all sense of the word. Okay, aside from shoe-horning myself into Louis XIV's bed (and this man sounds fascinating) what is even MORE fascinating is the tug of war between Louis' emotional needs (and his mistresses were not just a f**k) and the direct conflict maintaining his "mistresse et titre" and his role (which he took extremely seriously) as a moral example, a role that he saw, and others also saw, as part of his role as king. Not to mention, he was as concerned for his mortal soul as any Catholic (and he was quite devout), and his struggles with the church and how this impacted his stature as a moral leader was fascinating. Exceptionally well done book.

Chadwick does a great job of mixing history with her special blend of fiction. She sticks to the facts as we know them but enhances the characters by breathing into them a light and fresh perspective. Her fictional pondering may or may not be the truth, who knows but Elizabeth sure makes the story believable. I have a fair amount of knowledge of the period surrounding William Marshall's time and life so for me the story gelled easily in my mind. I didn't and don't want to read a stodgy old history book. That research is part of the authors job, not mine. I wanted to read an enjoyable fable mixed with facts, lore and legend. I was not disappointed. I look forward to reading the next installment on William Marshall's amazing history. He truly was "The Greatest Knight."

A page turner history.

Long and tiring, but very thorough research into IBM's dealings with Nazi Germany. I would recommend it hesitantly to people who are not History Majors.

Is it this easy to become a writer? After finishing this book I thought about how I would've been able to tell you the ending of this book having read the back cover... What is it like to be a single woman taking jobs that require almost no education? It's not fun, and you can't have a nice apartment. I was almost completely put off by this author as well. Her bashing of religion and her occasional racist remarks, for example when she was discussing why she did not choose to work in California, "But warnings about the heat and the allergies put me off, not to mention my worry that the Latinos might be hogging all the crap jobs and substandard housing for themselves, as they so often do." Not to mention this author lost almost all her credibility in my mind when she would continually take apartments that were well beyond her means and that she only remained at her jobs for such short times. This book ended terribly with a rant about how socialistic we must become and that Walmart owes their employees so much. This book made me disgusted with the sense of entitlement she had. It's a mutual agreement in which employees and companies work together, yet Ehrenreich believes companies are still indebted to their employees. One of the worst books I have ever had the misfortune to suffer through.

I don't usually love short stories, but I loved these. Well written and you don't even realize they are different stories. You immediately connect to the characters.

"... atalarıydı, ölü ve tozlu, burnu yıldıza doğrultan ve yüzyıllar boyunca ve onun içinden uluyan. Ve kadansları onların kadansları, acılarını dile getiren kadanslar ve onlara dinginliğin anlamı neydi ve soğuk ve karanlık. " Bu, yukarıdaki gibi akıl almaz derecede iyi yazılmış birçok pasajla iyice zevk aldığım zekice anlatılmış bir hikayeydi.
