¡Qué pasada de libro! Me tuvo enganchada desde el principio, y eso que yo no soy de libros de esos de en los que como digo yo, no pasa nada. Este tiene magia, te hace pensar. La verdad es que el protagonista tiene "mala suerte" con las amistades, pero al final es lo mismo que pasa a mucha gente en su vida. Se lo recomiendo a todo el mundo!!!

I fell in love with Sarah Addison Allen's writing in "The Girl Who Chased the Moon." This book had that same magical quality and storytelling. Allen's characters are very likable. She weaves a complicated and mysterious story into a small town setting. I didn't think that was something I paid that much attention too, but finding I like very much. If you want something light to read that has substance and grace, then her books are for you. You will close the book feeling up-lifted and you will most likely be smiling. I know I do... Paxton was a character I thought I was going to hate and her brother, Collin, but they were my favorites. I'm happy about that, because I didn't want to endure the mean girl drama. I'll enjoy the reprieve while it last.

Overhyped and misunderstood in the splashy press it received at relase, BHoTM is basically a compare/contrast memoir in what worked and what didn't in raising two stratospherically overachieving kids. It goes to show that the playing field is not only not level, but that many of us are not even in the same zip code as the playing field. It was not the strict hard-core-ness of the badass tiger mother that toasted my cookies, it was the spending without limit and the scheming to get "The Best" of everything...graduate-level music instructors for middle-schoolers, UPSing in new violins and traveling with several to decide which to record with, the suites and catering bought for the Carnegie debut party, the carbon footprint of coordinating music lessons in Connecticut, New York, and Chicago. While I'm sure that many of the "Chinese" parents (immigrant parents with high standards, not necessarily Chinese) embrace the values of practice and hard work championed by Chua, I bet the folks who own the small restaurant or the cab or the dry-cleaners aren't blowing their wad buying the access and the trappings of accomplishment. Also, I hate dog non-sequiters.
